Any out there with high cholesterol? How do you manage it? I had bloodwork done yesterday and they called and said my triglycerides were 288! (should be below 149, they told me). So this is a real wake up call for me. I know I can do better about munching on sweets (my downfall), but I really don't cook fatty meals--at least I didn't think so!!:( :( :(

Hi there! My blood work came back a couple of weeks ago. I go in to see the Dr. 2/10. Hopefully he will be pleasantly surprised...I have totally changed my eating habits, have lost 5 1/2 lbs since they called me, and am feeling great. I hope my triglycerides have already started dropping. I am eating a combination of no fat, low fat, low carb foods. I am reading labels on foods for the first time in my life (took me 2 hrs to shop Saturday)

I started this on my own, so I am anxious to see what he says next week, but I believe I am on the right track.

Please keep me posted as to what you do and what your Dr. says.

PS My reading was 244. We are in the same boat!

Melk...high triglycerides aren't caused by fatty food, it's actually caused by too much refined sugar (sweets etc) or too much alcohol.

I have high cholesterol and have been on Lipitor for a few years and that seems to be helping me but everyone's different and your Dr. will probably ask you to try and control it with diet alone for the first while and then re-test and to see what your readings are.:D

Good luck!:sunny:

I've been battling high triglycerides for over 5 years now. I'm also diabetic. High triglycerides can lead to pancreatitis, and you DON'T want that. I was in the hospital for one month and home for 3 months with home health care and and IV in my neck with nothing to eat or drink for 4 months! There's no treatment for pancreatitis, except to rest the digestive system, including the pancreas.

Sometimes it's genetic and you can only try to control it with diet and medicine. My last triglyceride reading was almost 700, and it was over 3,000 when I had pancreatitis. My cholesterol reading 4 years ago was 1200!!! So, BE CAREFUL -- it's not fun!

I was just referred to an endocrinologist, and he's changing my medication and I'm watching my diet more carefully. It's not easy, but neither is the alternative! Good luck!

caused by grains...pasta....ect........remember that some veggies even are high carbs ....this is what makes tri go up.....we do not eat sugar snacks and we definitely do not drink.....two beers a year at disney.....I asked my doctor about this......and he told me and also sent me my diet that says it........check out some of the sites on the internet

Yesterday I had an appointment with my neurologist. We got to talking about my DH, who has too high bad cholesterol, too low good cholesterol and high blood pressure. The neuro (who obviously also treats stroke patients), said if he had DH as his patient, he'd put him on a statin drug now because there is a family history of heart attack and stroke. If it doesn't go down in a month of eating better and exercising more, this may be the route we'll take.

pumba I was told this about 6 years ago when I was dignosed with diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol and this information was given to me by my diabetes educator and my family Dr. At the time of my diabetes diagnosis I attended a 3 day diabetes class in which I was given this information.

DH takes Zocor for his. He took Lescol for ages but it quit working. HUGS to you!!!
