If you are taking medicine for HBP, do you skip certain attractions, or can you ride whatever you want? Of course, I will speak with the doctor before our trip, just curious about others' personal experiences. tia

I would advise talking to your doctor, that being said, my spouse deals with HBP and takes medication for it and continues to ride all the exciting rides with no issues. We just go and have a blast. Getting your doctor's input would be wise.

I've been taking medication of hypertension for 20+ years. It keeps my BP under control and my Dr. doesn't suggest that I limit any activities because of it.

However, that's just me. Happy to see that the OP is checking with the Dr. before their visit as that's always the best advice.

It is best to talk to your doctor. :)
My FIL takes meds for HBP and he has never had any restrictions from his doctor. His dosage is quite low.

yes always ask your doctor.
generally the warnings are for "uncontrolled high blood pressure" therefore if your blood pressure is undercontrol via a medication then its safe to go on thrill rides.

i personally have HBP and take medication for it and i always go on thrill rides and have no issues.

Had high BP for years controlled by meds. never asked the doctor and ride everything even even all even all the Universal coasters.

Ask your doctor and follow that advice.

Salt intake and sodas while on vacation can also affect blood pressure.

My dh has well controlled blood pressure he goes on everything.

I have had HBP since I was a teen, and didn't get it under control till I was 25. Actually, my doctor was wondering why I wasn't passed out and heading to the hospital when I was placed on the meds; it was that high. I have never had a problem going on any of the rides before, or after getting it under control with the proper medication. I would also, as other people have mentioned, consult a doctor to be safe. My personal rule of thumb is that if I am feeling iffy, I will pass on any thrill rides till I start to feel better. My comfort level with the rides at Disney is extremely high, but that is just me. Usually if I am feeling iffy it is more to do with the heat and humidity. I find a place to cool down, and rest for a bit. (Long slow ride, or someplace to grab a quick bite to get a drink and sit inside) After the feelings subside, I am usually able to get back to the thrill rides.

My recommendations would be:

#1 Ask the doctor
only if the doctor says that it will be alright #2 Listen to your body (Feeling lightheaded, pulse quickening, shortness in breath, palpitations, just stay safe and relax and take a break)

I have controlled HBP and still go on the thrill rides. Like the pp have said, talk to your doctor. Have a great trip! °o°

I know it's not the same, but I have hypotension and can't ride RnR. Such a bummer. :(

Always talk to your doctor when it comes to any medical concerns like this.

That having been said, I expect that as long as you are on medication that keeps your blood pressure under control, you should be fine to go on pretty much any ride you want. I have been on medicine for my blood pressure for a number of years, not to mention having a bad disc in my back, and I go on pretty much every ride I want to. There are a hand full that I avoid due to fears that they might bother my back, but no limits due to the blood pressure.

Thank you everyone. This is all new for me. I just started my BP meds on Friday. So when my trip gets here, I will have been on it for a month. I go back to the Doctor next Monday for a kidney ultrasound (just to make sure I don't have any blocked arteries in my kidneys) My lab test came back good, for my thyroid, blood count, potassium levels. I will ask her when I go back next Monday about Disney. I completely forgot this past week (I was so anxious about the visit) it slipped my mind. Again, thanks!

Same here, medication for AFIb and high blood pressure, but the Dr. Told me no problem.

Again as others have pointed out, everyone has their own condition, so please check your Doctor.

My husband is on meds for high blood pressure and it able to do all at Disney World. However, like others have said, each person is different and the one person who can tell you about yourself is your doctor.

I have a broken neck and asked my doctor about doing thrill rides (after five years of healing had happened). His reply was that he was more concerned about me getting into a car accident and having the neck whipped forward than he was about a Disney thrill ride. So, listen to your doctor.
