Okay I have been a lurker here for about a month and have a few questions. I have been thinking and think the best times for my family and I to visit is early November or January. My questions is about January. What is the weather like in Jan? I am sure I will have more questions in the future but that is it for now. This is a great and very helpful board. Can't wait to get to Ft. Wilderness.

I can only personally speak to November - when it's pretty dry and temps run 70-80ish during the day 50-60ish at night. Although sometimes things get wacky... and cold.

One thing to consider is that January tends to be "rehab time" for attractions - one of the tradeoffs for the low crowds.

The weather in January can be very ify. If you don't mind the cold I think it's a great time. The crowds will be low except for MLK weekend. I think the crowds are the lowest I have ever seen.

We've been to the Fort twice; both times in January. To us, it's been great. We were very fortunate that the weather was nice. The worst it got was sweatshirts in the morning and evening. I wore shorts every day.

The crowds are low, but as Grumpy said, MLK weekend can get a little busy. The later in the month, the better. We're planning to go again in January, 2011.

I remember our first trip. We left Raleigh early in the morning and my truck's outside thermometer said it was in the 20s. By the time we got to Jacksonville, it was 82. That was cool. :thumbsup2

FIRST OFF....:welcome:

We visit FW in early Nov., early Dec. and early Jan. during Marathon Weekend. We have found that those times are good for Parks and weather. This past Jan. was pretty cold and wet but that's the way Fl. can be.

As mentioned, plan on coming expecting cool mornings and evenings with warming in between BUT be prepared for winter.

Welcome to the forum:thumbsup2. We stayed here in November of last year. The daytime temps were great, in the 60s to 70s, with the nights into the 50s. Are you staying in a tent, trailer or cabin. I believe this week it went down into the low 40s at the Fort so that could be chilly in a tent. Have fun planning for the trip:cool1:

if it's your first trip to the fort, come in november and celebrate the holidays. Halloween weekend is a great time at the fort too. And the temps have cooled off, and might be jacket weather, but not bad.

jan can be awful cold, we had temps in the 30's for a week, with not much better. Even last night we were suppsed to be mid 30's. The wind is a killer too, last weekend we had winds and gusts of 30mph. And it's a major time for rehab, splash is always down. Right now there are so many wooden walls up, i was shocked. It can definatly take away that disney magic unless you've seen the parks a hundred times. 2009 was the same way.

We love the Oct/Nov and Dec/Jan time frames for FW and the Oct/Nov is probably better. As mentioned Jan during Marathon Week or MLK can be more busy, but it's still great. Also, Jan is a main time for refurbs and this last Jan (2010) Crystal Palace and the bridge over to Adventure Land, Splash Mtn., the noodle shop in MK and the walkway to TL were closed, and a couple of other areas/attractions were closed.
