Hi everyone!

I've been a lurker over here for a while, but thought I would finally say hello. I'm usually over on the Resort Boards. My kids are HUGE FW fans (and me, too). We aren't what you would call true campers....as we do the cabins ;)... but over the past few years we have fallen in love with FW resort and campgrounds. Each trip that we take to the World, we have to go over to the Fort to eat or just look around. We've even tossed around the idea of getting a camper/5th wheel. Recently, we updated the old FW Resort thread that was found on the Resort Boards. Wish there was a way to link it over here as you guys have most of the answers for sure :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Heather

With the age of your children, a camper would allow for a lot a trips together and less airfare. While your oldest may grow out of it quickly, but he may enjoy it enough to opt for private tent outside of the trailer and continue. I think you would gain a MASS of information on trailers by stopping by RV.net which has a great forum group (though some of their discussions about etiquette and towing weights that get a bit lively.)

I been in an RV 4 years now and I no longer like resorts anywhere near as much, even when the adventure doesn't go as smoothly.

Thanks a million for the info on campers!!:thumbsup2 We live in the Savannah area, so fortunately we don't have that extra added expense of flying. DH does quite a bit of flats fishing in FL, so having a camper would come in quite handy for those trips, too. And I know the kids would have a ball. DS12 would love the idea of tent camping outside of the trailer! We'll be checking out that RV site for sure. And I'm always up for a "lively" discussion ;)

Heather,

Anybody who introduces themselves with "y'all" is welcome in my book. You're in Georgia, I'm in Alabama! :cool1:

We count cabin visitors at the Fort as campers (at least I do) and that's also the way I started out visiting the Fort if you look at my signature. Then we bought a popup to take to the mountain (my cabin), the beach (my condo), and the Fort (my DVC).

:welcome: and post more often! :dance3:

:rotfl: This could be a premonition! First, the deluxe resorts...then the cabin visits....and next a popup! Y'all might turn me into a "real" camper after all. My husband would greatly appreciate that since he loves the outdoors :thumbsup2

And thanks for the warm welcome! :goodvibes

:thumbsup2 Thanks! And by the way, I can see all of your tickers now :) THREE great trips in the very near future!

Welcome to the Fort Wilderness campground board.
I have to tell you that we started out the same way you did.
We loved staying at the cabin so much that it was hard for us to stay anywhere else. We love the fort.

When we first started staying at the fort the cabin prices were not too bad,
once we used our AP rate, but with rates going up and finding it harder to use a code we finally decide that we need to get an RV.
My husband surpised me by saying yes after over 40 years of me asking for a pop up camper, camper/5th wheel and even a tent...

So after a few years from now, I maybe hearing about you coming down with your own camper.

My DH is all over a pop up! Says it would be great...but I'm still not convinced  I'm not quite as adventurous when it comes to the outdoors. He's even good in a tent. The boys like to camp in the back yard...I'm good in the house :upsidedow HOWEVER....I'm slowly but surely coming around. Ya never know...y'all might see us pulling up in camper!

veraletta has described well how MANY of us got started.

Bama Ed

In all seriousness, while I'm super excited about our WL CL stay, I'm even more excited about our FW stay. I can see this becoming a trend  ...for sure.
