Hi Everyone - I've been lurking around here quite a bit and decided to register :thumbsup2 . I'm Heather and my fiance is Bobby, we've been engaged for almost 3 years, taking our time and we're finally starting the process of planning our wedding (finally convinced him to let me do Disney, hopefully it sticks)!!

Bobby is actually in the Marines, heading to boot camp in January. We're legally getting married in April when he gets from boot camp. And we've had July 2012 picked out for the wedding. We're wondering now if we should wait until April 2013, so that we have more time with things and stability with the Marines. We haven't signed a contract or even saved our date with Disney yet, I've only just contacted a sales consultant and talked about some things. Opinions? Are there any military brides that have been in this situation?

Honestly, having a hard time adjusting to this because I've been so excited about doing it in July 2012 that I don't want to wait an extra year... but it might be better in the end? Boo... The plan this far was to have an Escape wedding but if it's not until 2013, who knows maybe we could do Wishes. Now I have to start all over :headache:

Regardless, I was hoping I could join your fun in planning and wanted to introduce myself.:) And.. warning - I love these smilies so I might use these a lot.

Welcome, and congrats on getting started with planning your wedding! I'm not a military bride so I can't help with that but we do have some military brides here so hopefully they'll chime in. Happy wedding planning!

Congratulations and welcome!!!!
If you are looking for options that are less expensive and would, therefore mean that you didn't have to wait that extra year, why not check out 'Shades of Green' or Swan and Dolphin weddings? Both are right there in WDW, full on with the magic and significantly cheaper than the regular DFTW options.
Good luck with all your planning and please keep us posted (no pun intended)

Thanks for the welcome :) We came up with a new solution and decided to have the wedding on our anniversary in September 2012. So we'll see!

Congratulations and welcome!!!!

It's not quite the money as much as it is worrying about the Marines and how him taking leave will work right after getting out of training. I had no idea Swan & Dolphin did weddings though! I will have to take a look into that!

Hi Heather! Welcome :)

There is a couple of other girls on here that are marrying guys that are serving active-duty. I'm one of them! I know there is anther 2013 girl and then a couple 2012 girls. :goodvibes

I can't speak for certain about the Marines in specific, but it honestly might be very hard for your DF to get enough leave time that quickly after graduation. After graduation, they still have to go through specific training for their job. I'm not sure how it works for the Marines, like I said but I know for Air Force [from what I've gained from Chris talking about it]... you cannot get leave during Tech School without getting pushed back at least a week which delays your graduation.

Honestly, if I were in that position....I'd wait until Sept. 2012. I know how it feels to be excited for an earlier date but it's just a few more months and it gives you more time to plan! :)

By September, your DF will probably be at his permanent station and that will help slightly! Just make sure the moment he PCS's to the location, he talks to someone about leave.

I hope my ramble makes sense!

Thanks so much Megan!! I think we're def gonna wait til Sept 2012 so we don't have to worry as much and just talk to someone about the plans. It's all kind of exciting!!
