We just returned from a program at the HH resort. Years ago Chef Gordon, whom many will recognize from the Mercantile at the resort, served as host to a number of food related programs. Those offerings through the resort's recreation program were discontinued a number of years ago but, due to many repeated requests from resort guests, the resort decided to reopen a series of programs.

Tonight was 'A Taste of Wine'. There 15 guests in attendance and 4 different wines were on the program held in Big Murggies Den in the Main Building. Gordon explained the art of wine tasting (color, nose, taste) and walked us all through that format with each wine. His wine choices were all selections from 'Food/Wine' festival.

Before each tasting a melba toast and water was offered to cleanse the palate. We started with a Sauvignon Blanc 2015 (Monkey Bay Vineyard, New Zealand). Next was a Chardonnay 2014 (Louis Jadot Bourgogne, France), followed by a Pinot Noir (Jacuzzi Family Vineyard, California) and finished with a Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (Casillero del Diablo Reserva, ChilWith each offering, we discussed what we were seeing regarding the color/clarity, what fragrances were found (fruit, forest, flavor) and what tastes were evident in the flavor and how they improved as the wine became more oxygenated.

The program lasted over an hour. Future offerings for the "Longview Cooking Club" program will include cooking demonstrations and cheese samplings.

The cost was $15 (plus tax) for the program. Check your activity schedule on arrival at the resort for offered dates/times.

Enjoy!

Ahh-Chef Gordon is back! Thanks for the review. People sometimes look at me strangely when I walk into the Mercantile and ask, "Is Chef Gordon working today?" Maybe now they won't look strangely so often. Just one question-in the past, did he do this over at the Beach House or was that other offerings?

Tonite's was held in Big Murgie's Den. In the past, some of the programs were at the Beach House at Signal's but most were offered at the resort. Gordon's programs have not been offered for about 10 years now.

For those not familiar with Chef Gordon, he is credentialed as a trained chef and has offered a wide variety of programs over the years - ranging from 'Member Day' tours of the resort to a multitude of cooking related events. Early on he offered 'A Private Affair', which was a dinner for up to six and prepared/served in the Grand Villa model. It was later moved to Signal's at the Beach House where an elegant meal of guest choosing was prepared and served.

A number of other programs were also offered and that seems to be what the resort is trying to revive.

If this evening was an indication, the revival will be a great success. :)

I am hoping for cooking demo when I'm with my SSis this summer.

Oh, Oh-we just got the list of activities for our annual Thanksgiving trip, and the Longview Cooking club wasn't on there. Gordon better be prepared for grief from me (actually more like a sob!)

You might even want to make sure the manager is aware of your disappointment. We were told that the reason these programs were coming back was due to the many, many requests by guests over the last 10 years. If it is not going to be a regular program, the resort needs to know that perhaps it should be.

(but, you should also sob to Gordon! :( )

Sorry to read this. I know you were hoping!
