Does anyone have current information and pricing on the recreation programs at HHI? I searched the board and all the info seems pretty outdated. I just called to get info about the dolphin tours and the Barrier Island Beach Combing. The beach combing is $70 per person - wow, that seems pricey! What do you do - is it worth it? If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it!

the resort can send you a copy of the current list of activities so that you can have something current - call them directly to request same. a week before your arrival you can usually get the list for your vacation week.

when we go to hhi we just chill out and mostly enjoy the dining opportunities on/off the island, so i can't help you out with visitor type activities. my niece who stayed there with her family did a dolphin tour while visiting sea pines and otherwise did all their other activities at the resort...basketball, bikes, grilling, crabbing, campfire, pillow making and lots of swimming at both pools and the ocean. mind you - they did att of that in a weekend!

i believe you can find lots of hhi activities if you google visit hilton head island or a similar phrase.

you can also find out more about the resort if you seek out the hhi resort lovers thread.

The Island Explorer Dolphin cruises are $45 each. I haven't been on them but plan to in April..

We have never done the beach combing but we have have done the dolphin tour many times. We enjoy it so much that we use the same company (http://www.lowcountrynaturetours.com/) for dolphin tours even when we are not staying at Disney.

I have heard people talk about the Disney tours vs. the other companies. Is this the company that Disney uses? The prices and descriptions sound like the ones that HHI gave. The pricing makes sense though now that I look at it becasue the beach combing includes the dolphin tour.

Yes, this is the company that Disney uses. If I remember correctly, Wednesday is member day so you can get 10% off.

The company also runs tours out of the Shelter Cove side of the harbor so you can book with them whether you are staying at Disney or not.

We have found this cruise much better than the larger boats even though it is somewhat more expensive. There is a limit of 6 people on each boat and the tour can very much be customized depending on what you like.

Captain Scott (who is the primary owner) and his staff are fantastic. I am starting to sound like a commercial, but I would be more than happy to answer any other questions you may have.

LOL -- I feel that way too when I'm talking about Scott & Low Country. I can't even begin to explain the fantastic tours that we've done with him --- fishing, dolphin tours and beach combing. Each one has been unique and a great experience in it's own way. Just a couple weeks ago, we went fishing with Scott. Not only did the boys catch their sharks they wanted to catch, but we saw tons of dolphins as well as a bunch of moon jellies hanging around. Again, another unique experience.

We love Scott & his tours. Definately worth the money. :cheer2:

So how was the beach combing? Is it worth the extra $? Thanks for the info!

We just checked into HHI yesterday we are here till saturday what kind of recreation were you looking for? The tours or the arts and crafts that are run at the resort?

The tours that are listed on the hhi website as water adventures: barrier island, dolphin, kayaking and fishing. Thanks.

Prices that we got in our welcome home packet are: Dolphin Tours $40 per person, Daufuskie Beachcombing (barrier island) $70 pp, Kayaking $30 pp, fishing charters $450 for 1 to 6 people. There are other places on the island that you can use, this is the one that the resort uses.

Sorry, I don't come on here nearly as much as I once did.

We have found that the beach combing is the best of both worlds -- it's a dolphin tour on the way out to Dufuski and then getting off of the boat and walking the island. We missed out on doing it earlier this month, but next year, it's a must do for us as we truly enjoy it. We have seen some fantastic things over the years --- starfish, tons of sand dollars (both dead and alive), conch and many more. Even an eagle over the years.

Thanks!!:worship:

Quick question...can these activities be charged to your room? I ask because I can redeem AMEX rewards for "travel" expenses. IF the charge comes from the resort, it is a "hotel" charge and I can be reimbursed for it from my rewards. I also have Disney Visa rewards and Disney Gift cards so I need to charge everything to the room:laughing:.

BUMPING this to see if there are any new recreational activities taking place at HHI. We are staying there for the first time over next Easter break- mid-April.

Appreciate any helpful info regarding where the best places to eat are, what room requests, if any, have worked for others and also wondering how far exactly it is to the beach.

Thanks in advance!!
