Can anyone give me thier opinion on the Marriott Hotel on HHI. We decided to try to take a vacation next weekend. The availability at HHI is extremely limited. I did find a room at the Marriott. We have never been to HHI before. I would appreciate any and all recommendations, advice, etc. Thanks!:)

I haven't stayed there, but have visited for dinner, etc. It seems to be a very nice property, is beach front, has nice pools (both inside and outside), and is just a short distance north of the Disney Beach House. (Before it was a Marriott, it was a Hyatt).

Thank you for the information DVC John. Can you tell what not to miss on HHI - any must do's or don'ts? Thanks again.

Are you staying at Barony Marriott timeshare resort? I know the beachfront Barony is a timeshare for Marriott and so I didn't know if you are staying in a dvc equilavent villa. HHI is very difficult to get anything in June, July or August at less than 7 months as most owners reserve at 11 months for the summer(that's why I added on at HHI in 2002 and again in 2010!). There are many great restaurants on the island and stop by the visitor center right as you get off the bridge(neat Crazy Crab restaurant). Day trips to Beaufort are also nice. We just came back from 5 days at disney HHI then 1 night in Savannah. Did alot of reading and walking the beach, shopping and DH golfed once. Its our favorite beach vacation and this is our 5th straight summer going...try disney's HHI resort when you can..its beautiful, great beach access and shopping/eating/entertainment at Shelter Cove. If you are there on Tuesday night, sheltr Cove has lots of entertainment outdoor and then you can watch fireworks after (HHI disney resort has great views, but anywhere at Shelter cove you can see them....we ove HHI!

Connears, it just a Marriott hotel, not the Marriott timeshare. I did not even try to book Disney's HHI - I know that would be impossible. I have already allocated all my points for WDW in 2010 & 2011. It looks like I need to add additional points!;) I have never been to HHI. We always go to the gulf. I am looking forward to trying something new.

By next weekend, do you mean the 4th? Super busy time, if you go out to eat go EARLY!!!!

Yes, it is the weekend of the 4th. I hope that it will not be too crowded to enjoy. Thanks everyone for the tips. Are there any must do casual restaurants?

We love Old Oyster Factory(do not take reservations and it does get crowded), Frankie bones (fun, good american fare), Crazy Crab-good old stand-by seafood, wanted to try Roasted fish and cornbread(new) but couldn't fit it in, Hudsons is OK, as is Scott's fish Market(shelter cove). We also like pizza, etc at Guiseppis and DelVecchios. Lot's of others, but these are some of our return ones.

Make sure to pick up the HHI restaurant guide at the visitor center and most resorts(its very thick!) or go to hhidining.com for the menus before hand.

I'm not a golfer, but if you are, HHI has enough golf courses to keep any golfer happy.

My favorite things are riding all the bike paths (they are all over the island), and walking and bike riding on the beach. The beach there is relatively flat and hard packed sand, so that you can walk/ride for miles without getting tired.

I also like to visit Sea Pines Plantation (there is a small fee for visitors).

If you were going to be there for a week, a day trip to Savannah would be in order. But if you are only there for a weekend. you'll probably want to spend all your time on the island.

Stayed at the Marriott last year and loved it They have a grill/snack bar with servers at the pool which was wonderful. Breakfast was pricey but excellent.
