We are officially in the DVC system as of today :cool1: We have our first DVC reservations for a studio for 2 nights at HHI. If we like it we will make it a permanent yearly stop on our way home from WDW.

Should I request to be in a certain area? And how do I request? Can you make online requests?

Does anyone have any good photos of the beach itself? I want to show my boys. They have never been to an actual ocean beach to play. I have seen a couple of photos but they are more focused on the people then on the beach area.

Advice on where to eat? Boys will be 8 & 5 and probably burnt out from WDW ;) So looking for quick and basic.

Thanks!

As far as requests for a location for a studio, there are only 21 studios at HHI, 16 of which are in the main lodge, so chances are you'll be there. The other locations are in buildings 16, 18, 28, 30, and 19 (I think those are the ones). The ones in the buildings other than the lodge are all first floor ones and you may be bothered by heavy footsteps from above. As far as resturants, do you like seafood? If so, Sea Shack is good and VERY casual. We also liked Kenny Bs, also casual. Sorry, no beach pictures.

For something quick and basic for boys 5 and 8, there are the Hilton Head Diner and Stacks Restaurant within a 1/2 mile of the DVC resort. If you want to drive an extra few miles, but not long in time, there is a Panera Bread. For lunch one day, you could eat at the DVC place at the Beach House. It's hamburgers, hot dogs type of food, but the boys might like it.

There are many other restaurants ranging from the McDonalds / Wendys up to good, dress-up places. In October there will not be much wait or crowding for restaurants.

For clothing, bring enough for a big temperature range. We've gone to HH every October for the last eight years. Some days have highs in the low 80s, others are very cool and cloudy with highs in the 50s.

We always enjoy it, however and find DVC HH very peaceful in October.

Be prepared for your kids to decide the love HH more than WDW. Most years we do WDW in the summer and HH in the fall. If we were to have to choose one over the other- I believe my three children would demand HH.

Mine would, too!!! We go to WDW every other year and HHI on the other years. They LOVE the HHI years! In fact, they would rather us go to HHI every year!

October weather will generally be warm enough to enjoy a swim (even in the ocean). There is certainly a difference between early and late October, but temps will be in the upper 70's much of the time - a delightful time to be there. The resort activities are still in full swing and the resort will be well occupied.

We were there in October last fall and will be again this fall. The ocean temps were still upper 70's in mid October last fall!

Enjoy! :)
