I'm sure someone has asked before, but please tell me exactly how cold/rainy or unfavorable it is to visit HHI during Sept/Oct? Wanting to see if a weekend getaway with another couple would be worth it? Also, I noticed that a lot of the restaurants are seasonal - is it slim pickings for someplace to eat during these months? What else can we do if it's too cold/rainy for the beach or pool?

Appreciate the feedback!!!popcorn::

We visited HHI last year from September 16-23. We loved it!

Overall, the weather was nice. It was plenty warm enough to swim, but was not too hot to enjoy outdoor activities... highs of about 80-85. The ocean water was warm. I believe it only rained one day of our 7 day trip. The only negative was that it was pretty windy throughout the first several days of our trip, making beach outings uncomfortable (we have 2 small children and the sand was blowing in their eyes). However, the wind let up and the last few days of our trip were beautiful. (I will note that several of the locals we met indicated that the winds we experienced were rare.)

Disney's HHI resort has a counter service for food both at the resort & at the beach house, both of which were open during our stay. Harbor Cove is just a short walk over a pedestrian bridge and had several great restaurants, all of which were open during our stay. (During the summer months the Cove is host to entertainment and fireworks. These are not available in the fall. However, all of the restaurants were open.) We also drove to other restaurants on the island. We didn't find any restaurants that were closed for the season.

We found September a GREAT time to visit. The weather was still warm enough to enjoy the pool, beach, and other outdoor activities (island tour, dolphin cruise, biking, etc.)... we found MANY great restaurants... there is plenty to do, if you want to... and NO crowds (which is very different than what you'd experience during the summer months).

Best of luck with your decision!

Your trip report to HHI in Sept was so helpful - thank you for taking the time to reply. We are now excited about planning a trip with another couple (sans the children) mid-Sept! Thanks again!!!

It's a wonderful time to be on the Island. The crowds are gone, as mentioned earlier - the weather's still wonderful, and the seasonal restaurants are still open. They tend to close after Thanksgiving.

Several years ago I took my brothers to HHI for a long golfing weekend (Thurs to Mon) the first weekend of November. We had perfect golfing weather. Sunny every day and a high of about 70 each day. I don't know how the beach would have been but the golfing was awesome. We didn't encounter any closed restaurants. Had a number of excellent meals.

We went mid-October last year. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm, but not too hot. I would highly recommend that time of year. :beach:

We gave my niece and her husband a 3 night honeymoon at HHI for their wedding gift. they were married in October and had a tremendous time! They hit the beach often and had great meals and shopping on the island. When I made the reservation for them(it was over 7 months prior to the wedding) I told cm at MS that it was a gift for their wedding. Well they must have noted it on the reservation because when they checked into their 1 bdrm, there was a balloon arrangement with good wishes and they had an announcement on the resort tv station about them being newlyweds! they got quite a kick out of it..they said they want to return for an anniversay because the weather was perfect.
