There are two sides to the resort. The resort actually faces the marsh land near shelter cove marina. There is a general store and snack bar just like the other DVC resorts. Exercise area, community room and activities area as well. This is where the pool and boardwalk converge. So, in essence this the center of the facility for activity. This can get very crowded during the summer months and much angst for money who are not able to get a lounge chair because people reserve chairs frirst thing in the morning and dont come back until 5 pm to claim them. So you will hear many grumbles.......

Side two to resort is the Beach House.....you can get there by shuttle bus or drive 1/2 miles away. There are some smaller crafts and games for youngster a small bar and snack bar for burgers, dogs and chick sandwiches. Main activity there.......THE Beach......kites, sand, frisbees, sunburn walking and biking. This is where we hang out. Especially first thing in the morning and later in the evening.

We tend to do the same about food, however, we will cook in as well. Depending on what night they will have an all american/low shore type bbq. I found it pricey. But, we like to cook and would say for $ 125 we can get all the steak, fresh shrimp and fixings we want and it be better than anything they could make. But ....Hey.....that is me ! Hilton Head has several clicque type restaraunts that you would like to take the kids. Old Oyster Factor is child friendly one right across the marsh and the Old Salty Cafe is another. I found the food there boring, however, the t shirts are the most popular around.

Dont forget the shopping in the outlets, golfing, tennis, dolphin watching and fishing. So there is enough to keep the brood happy. When we go to HH, we just try to relax. Our boys state that is like going to WDW without being exhuasted from standing in line.

Have Fun !

If you want to eat dinner out -- plan on going early, especially with kids! Most restaurants do not take reservations and fill up quickly during the summer months. You might want to either have lunch at the beach or pool (we sometimes pack our own) and have an early dinner.

We also tend to cook dinner in quite a bit while at Hilton Head. Avoiding the crowds is one aspect of it, but we love buying fresh seafood in the afternoon and preparing it ourselves that night!

The resort has LOTS of activities for the kids -- some free, some for a fee. You can also visit some of the local attractions, like the Coastal Discovery Museum.

If you insist on being on-the-go every day ;) , a day trip to Beaufort or Savannah might fill up your time. (We personally think Charleston is too much for just a one-day trip.)

There is no Boardwalk area per se, but there are several miniature golf courses and a few arcades if that's what you're looking for.

Hopefully you will find yourself pleasantly surprised and will find plenty to do right at the resort. We rarely leaving the island and have to force ourselves to go get what we need for dinner each night!

It's a very different atmosphere than WDW -- you may end up letting go some of that planning instinct and just relaxing.....:hippie:

Do a search on the Dis for HH; you will find a plethora of information. There is lots and lots to do for all ages; or you can do nothing (my plan) HH is truly a gem, my family loves it as much as WDW.

Try out this link and see what you can find. I went out to the restaurants, as we LOVED a pizza place called Guiseppi's. Though we've only been to HHI once year's ago, we STILL talk about that pizza.

As for kids, it truly is a beach/pool kind of place. They offer the typical parasailing, deep sea charters, etc. If you like golf, they have courses (though very expensive...at least the one we went to). Par 3s are more my speed, but we couldn't find any. We didn't look too hard, but it's something DH, DS and I can do together and have fun.

Lastly, the island itself is really pretty. We went to eat and then to the lighthouse one evening. My son was bored to tears, but I enjoyed it! :lmao: As I said, it's been a few years, so I'm sure there's even more to do now.

Hope you have a WONDERFUL trip!!! :thumbsup2
