HH mid-week in July - any chance of reservation 1 month out?

The contract we hope to close on in June has 17 points which must be used by 11/30. My wife and I will be in Myrtle Beach late in July, and 17 points would get us a studio at HH, four hours away, for one night. I can't see selling 17 points, and we have plans for the rest

Almost any weeknight would work, we just want one night to start our DVC experience and not waste the points. Am I crazy for hoping we might get a room booking maybe 6 weeks out?

Once within 60 days, any unhooked rooms go into breakage mode. There's a chance, but it may be challenging.

Slim to none...there are only 21 studios at HHI so getting one on short notice during the summer, even for one night, will be next to impossible.

Thank you. I knew the odds were slim, but was hoping for a chance. We can't close any faster, and this is the only time we'll be within 750 miles of a DVC before 11/30.

I live within 4 hours of HH so I have sort of been monitoring availability. The first time I saw 7 month availability was for the 3rd week of October.

My sister booked a couple of nights at HH at only a couple of months out for July last year. You will need to catch a cancellation using the RAT before the nights go to fill a waitlist.

Your chances are slim, but if you check the RAT multiple times a day, you might find a night open up

Would I have better luck if we were willing to spend more points to get a 1BR? 31 vs 15, but for our first stay at DVC I would not mind "wasting" a few more points. We'd planned on borrowing 7 from 12/1/17 for our July 2017 trip (of 160), this way we'd borrow 21, but we have no plans beyond July 2017 yet and were probably banking whatever was left.

Possibly, but not likely. There are only 21 1BRs as well. All of the studios and 1BR's are actually 2BR lock-offs. 16 of them are in the main lodge (the only building with an elevator) so anyone that needs an accessible 2BR (or studio or 1BR) would need one of those. The other 5 lock-offs are on the "ground" floor under the grand villas. The remainder of the resort is comprised of 76 dedicates 2BR's which means your best bet is with a 2BR.

Sorry, but i'm new to DVC... what is RAT? is that just the resort availability you can check on the dvc website? I have a waitlist request for August but sounds like chances are super slim it will come through.

Just yesterday, (April 27), I booked a 2-bedroom for 8 nights in late September. I was surprised to find any availability, but am very thrilled to have our first stay at HHI.
