I called HH directly and asked about whether or not we could rent beach chairs and umbrellas from them, as we are not going to drag all our stuff with us. Front Desk told me we can rent from the lifeguards, whom are from an outside company and that the chairs and umbrellas can be rented right there on the beach. I need to know if anyone has done this before, is it a matter of getting there very early in the morning in order to make sure we get them for the day, are they actually on Disney's HH private beach or do we have to go somewhere else to get them and bring them back, and are then in good condition and worth renting, also about how much is it to rent them for the day? TIA

I thought I recalled a post about doing a Beach Chair and Umbrella exchange this summer (maybe Laurabear?). If someone is still thinking about organizing this, we would be interested. We'll be there from May 26- June 2nd.

I'm really good at being a squatter on those chairs! But here's how to rent them...

There will chairs set out, some with names paperclipped on them. A few other chairs will say "FOR RENT" on them. There may be a phone number you can call, I'm not sure. Anyway, use these chairs and when the lifeguards come around they'll ask if you want to rent. They'll take your info for the length you want to rent and every day they'll be set up for you, with your name on them. They take them down by about 5pm each afternoon. Also, note that the chairs are placed above the high tide line. When it's low tide and your kids are playing in the water it's a looooong way from your chairs/umbrella. If you have a car, you may find it easier and cheaper to go to Walmart, buy a couple of chairs and umbrella, use them and leave them there. But the big chairs are nice too. You'll still need to bring your own beach towel.

:-) It was me, good memory Hook! I didnt get a whole lot of responce to that thread but I am game to stir it up again and start a list... Keep an eye out for it ;)

We rented beach stuff on our first trip, and thought it was prohibitively expensive. On our other trips to HHI, we always hit the Wal-Mart on the way to the resort. You drive right past it. For what a couple days rental costs, you can buy a bunch of chairs, umbrellas, water toys, etc.

Also... Disney does NOT have a private beach. I think all of the beaches on the island are public, although access may be limited. So people from the resorts and houses on Palmetto Dunes are free to wander over to where Disney has access, and vice versa. This won't be a problem at all, because the beach is way big enough, but I don't want you to be surprised.

Hi, DeeCee - This is one of my favorite things about HH!

First, Disney doesn't have a private beach. You will be walking, biking or driving your own car or taking a shuttle van to the Beach House - a mile away directly across the street from the Disney resort and down a pretty winding road that takes you to the beachfront access. Once you are there and on the beach, chairs and umbrella are set up. Choose the one you want (2 chairs and an umbrella are included) and a lifeguard will come by and write you a "ticket" and collect your pay. You can rent for a half day, a full day, or multiple days. I always rent for the whole 5 days we will be there on the first day. Last year I think you got a discount - the first day was $28, and the remaining days were $17. I think I figured on about $100 for our whole time. When we take friends we rent two sets so everybody can have some shade to read and get out of the sun.

For me as a single mom, it is so worth it to pay this money!!! I hate buying a cheapie umbrella - I can NEVER get them to stay in the sand, the chairs are flimsy, etc. These are nice solid wood and canvas style beach loungers - you can stretch all the way out. It's just really nice not to have to take them or be in any way responsible for them at all.

I've been in the position of having to go down early in the morning at other beaches, but last year I asked the lifeguard and she said she honestly didn't think they would run out - they were close to "full" and she said she could always go and get more if she needed them. I suppose if you found it hard to rent one day you could go early the next day and rent for the rest of your stay - that way you'd be able to get there at your conveneince the rest of the week. If you rent for more than one day, they just put your name back on the chair when they set it up in the morning.

Love, love, love this service!!!

Liz-
Was this during Easter week? I only remember the chair/umbrella rentals there during the summer months?

Hi - we rented chairs and umbrellas for a week. It was expensive, but they were set up and tagged with our name. It was very convienent. I would do that again rather than lug all the stuff back and forth. Sandie
