hey, wassup w/Star Jones??? She looks thinner....

In the past few months people of size are being made to feel less then human because they/we have a weight situation. I admre Star Jones because she seemed to be very comfortable with her size. She also proved that big women could wear nice clothes and look attractive.
From listening to Randy Jackson discuss the surgery effects I just don't see it as a cop out---it seems more like punishment to me.

Ihaven't really posted here for more than just giving updates on Third Watch, but this is an issue that I just can't keep my mouth shut on.

pnelson, I don't know you, but I really hope that you don't ever find yourself in a situation where you've put on weight and find it impossible to take it off. Because I have to tell you, pnelson, until you've walked a mile in an overweight's person's shoes, you have -no room- to talk.

Do you think that overweight people enjoy being fat? Do you think we've chosen to be this way? For many of us losing weight is a -daily effort- that is basically forced upon us because of stereotypes that people like -you- promote.

I would rather be overweight, and non-judgemental than thin and someone who is so narrow-minded, that they can't see beyond the fat toi the fact that the person who is that way is that way for a reason.

*climbs off of soap box, picks it up, and wanders away*

I like Star Jones. I think she's attractive and nice and her weight doesn't mean nearly as much as those two qualities IMO. If people don't like the way she talks, just don't listen.

...and now, lets put it to bed! it wasn't started to incite attacks against Jones, just an observation that the lady was looking different. Who cares how she lost weight. She lost it,and feels better! Good for her! She's much happier and healthier!!

I'm sorry, judgemental people tick me off.

From what I heard on the View. Star found an exercise that she enjoys. She has lost weight and felt better about herself. She is also now in love.
She sites feeling better about herself as the main reason why that man is in her life now.

It's none of anyone's business if she had the surgery or not and if she wants to keep that information private, more power to her.

There must be something upseting you so much in _your_ life that you are so disgusted by fat people. This is the second thread I have read (within 12 hours) that you are bashing the overweight.

First you claim, in another thread, that you would "rather be MEAN than FAT" (very frightening that you are around children with such an unstable thought process) and now you are saying that when a person takes the last drastic step to lose weight (gastric bypass) that it is a "cop out". Uh. Yeah. So you want people to be skinny, but on _your_ terms.

I hope you find peace with yourself one day, pnelson. It is attitudes like yours that make this country, this world a sad place indeed :-(

Pnelson, I am in awe of you.
It must be such a burden to be so much better than everyone else.
Before you sit there in such disgustingly bigoted delusions of superiority, perhaps you might want to take a good luck in the mirror that you think fat people should avoid and assess your own flaws before you start touting what others should fix themselves because it disgusts you.

I just happened to see the show last week and thought the same thing. Star looks really good. I admit I am not a big fan of hers but I always thought she was very attractive. Now with the weight loss she looks great. Maybe its because she's in love:lovestruc Well whatever it is its working.

I just read an article in this weeks TV Guide about Star. She doesn't say if she had surgery or not. She does say it is her business. She said that she was getting really bad asthma from being over weight and she got really scared and changed her lifestyle.

I don't have an opinion on her. I don't get to watch The View since I work during the day. From the pictures I have seen she is a beautiful woman. I thinkit is great to have a plus size person in the public who looks so great. If she looses weight, whether it be through surgery or diet and excercise - good for her on improving her health.

My Best friend had the bypass surgery and she lost a ton of weight really fast. How much has she lost and it what period of time? Doesn't seem like enough to be surgery, but as I said. I don't watch the how so I don't know how much she has lost.

If she had the surgery, it's one of the least effective I've seen. Yeah she's lost some weight, but nothing compared to the almost immediate results others have.

Perhaps she has chosen to eat a healthier diet, and doesn't feel the need to share every bit of the minutiae of her private life on the air?

I happen to like Star. I don't laways agree with her opinions, but I like the way she stands up for what she believes and doesn't waffle.

I recall a discussion they had on the air a few years ago about the KKK. Obviously, Star does not agree wit the belief system of KKK members, but she made a poweful, and very telling statement. She said "I don't agree withwhat they are preaching. I don't respect them because they have to hide themselves. I support their right to free speech, but uncover your faces so we can see who it is that is exercising that right". I agree wholeheartedly. If you are too ashamed to show your face when speaking or living your beliefs, then I put very little stock in what you say. Anonymity is for cowards.

That is an awesome statement, DD...

It's funny how the anonymity of cyberspace has become the new mask of cowardice. I know that some of the people here wouldn't have the guts to say the same thing into a person's face.

How Star Jones lost weight or why she lost weight or when she lost weight or how much weight she lost is just not my business, nor is it yours. She's a remarkable woman, her size and shape has no bearing on that. She's accomplished, she's outspoken, she's famous. Listen to her or don't but what's her size got to do with anything?

One more thing, pnelson, I don't remember voting for you for chief high inquisitor and rule setter. What right do you have to say what anyone "should" do or feel?

There's only one thing I can't stand about Star Joes: Does she really expect us to believe that she buys her shoes at Payless Shoe Source?

;)
