I just have to brag this morning - it is like everyone says it is when they get it - you hop up and down and cry tears of joy.

My DS (25 months) last night tried going on the potty as he has been doing for quite some time now with nothing happening - but at least he is trying with pants down and diaper off. We then left his diaper off after he finished trying. He was sooo funny, strutting around feeling his tush. I kept asking if he like it without a diaper on and he said, OH YEAH! He was so funny - I wish I had the foresight to have had the video camera out for it. Well then, about twenty minutes into his walking around sans diaper he looks at me and says, dadda - I say back to him, no, Daddy is out at a meeting tonight, he looks at me again, and says, dodda, I again say, no, but Daddy will be back in a little bit. Finally he takes my hand leads me towards the bathroom and says, DODDA, MAMA!

OH, Duh! He is saying potty in his own way. I take him in and he sits on his potty chair and within five minutes - after twenty times through his potty book - HE GOES!

I am so excited. My husband missed it but I left it in the potty for him to see - I know gross to anyone not going through this - but holy exciting.

So I let him sleep with his Wiggles underwear over his diaper so when he woke up he immediately went to try and go again. Then when we were getting him ready for school he refused to wear a diaper - UH, OK.

So he is off at school today being a big boy! I am such a proud Mommy right now! I sent him with several pairs of pants and an assortment of undies too.

Just for anyone looking for the how we got here to this point behind the story, he started sitting with pants on on the potty chair at 18 months. We have always tried to talk openly about going to the potty with him so he is very familiar with it and wants to go in with us when we go and "try". He started taking his pants down at around 22 months. We reward tries with stickers and hugs.

I think two things that really helped us last night was having his favorite characters underwear in the house already and he knew about them and had seen them out of the package. He has Thomas, Wiggles, Matchbox and Bob the Builder underwear all ready for when he was ready. His Potty book really helped enormously too - he read it over and over last night like it had taken on new meaning to him now that he had done it too. It is "The Potty Book for Boys" It is a board book that has a photo of a little boy sitting on a potty chair on the front.

Now on to Poops! He has been trying poops too so hopefully he won't be scared to do it. I thought he was going to last night too but nothing came out but some gas.

OK, this is gross, but hopefully all you other Moms and Dads will get it.

:sunny: :bounce: :teeth:

WOOHOOO!!!! Now I need to know if you typed that all in one breath!!! LOL

::yes:: Yup, I couldn't wait to get in to share it here on the DIS!

My son (3 years) is having a lot of success when he's naked. He actually didn't have a diaper on at all yesterday and only had two accidents. Now, he knows what to do it's just a matter of him finding time to do it---he's so busy. He even likes to go in public restrooms. We're getting really close, but the problem is that we're expecing our second in less than a month. Even though he's really excited about the baby, I know it could be a hard transition for him. So, I'm just going to keep letting him do his thing, whether it's being naked, wearing underwear or wearing a diaper. Good Luck to us all!!!!!

LOL....I know exactly what you're going through. I talk about potty training to some people and they cringe, but I can't help it. That's why it's so great to come here since some of us are going through the same thing. Congrats to you! I did go out last night after I posted my thread yesterday and got my son Thomas the train and Spongebob underwear (where did you find the Wiggles ones???). He wore his all night (and was dry) and loved them. He's almost 3.5 though, not 25 months!!

Congrats to you on your success! Send your little one my way and maybe he can teach my son!

Way to go!!! I'm about to train my 2.5 year old, wish me luck! We'll be doing the naked thing next week! OH BOY!:teeth:

I totally understand your excitement, castlegazer. Just think about how excited you would be if he did it at 4 years old! That's when my first DS finally was trained. Tears of joy the first time he went. Then more tears when I picked him up from his first day at preschool and had used the potty there-the BIG one! I know people thought I was weird, but it is SUCH a milestone.. I am so glad you didn't have to wait as long as I did...;)

Congratulations, DS25mo!!:bounce:

I got most of the underwear at Kohl's, including the Wiggles - it was the last place I looked. I had been everywhere trying to avoid having to order the Thomas ones on-line. Bob I got at Wal-Mart.

The diaperless experience really did work wonders immediately. I was shocked!

I had been thinking we would never get past the whole trying thing for a very long time since I work full time. People had told me that they needed to be home full time and do the naked thing for a two week period. Hopefully he will continue his good work at school too. They were excited for him too this morning and seemed completely used to doing this.

I am all puffed up - but I know that we are no where near done here. The bad news is that we are headed to my DH's college reunion this weekend so we will be at a hotel and in a strange environment.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL! It fels like this is so sudden, but he has been workin up to it for a very long time.

I am sure we will all have so many other wonderful moments to shed tears of joy for our children's accomplishments. That is so wonderful and I could just feel your joy reading your post. That is a big time tear event - see, I wasn't even ready for this to happen to my son, nor expecting it. I hope its not a fluke.

I don't know where you live but a friend of mine trained her little boy by letting him make water off the back porch. Of course her daughter years later when she was training couldn't understand why she couldn't.

Good Luck
