Hey Philly, who has the best cheesesteak?

We are heading down to my nephew's graduation tomorrow night. We are going to make a day of it, spend some time in Philly and check out some sites. The thing we most want to see is some cheese dripping off a steak sandwich.:rotfl2: So, tell me, where do we go for the BEST?

Uh-Oh...... This is a major controversy in this area..... I will offer a disclaimer- I am a native New Englander transplanted 13 years ago to Philly(actually delco) I vote for Pats....... (flame away natives..)

Ohhh, this could get ugly :rotfl: My favorite has always been Genos:banana:

If we're talking about South Philly, then go to Geno's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pat's steaks have too much gristle in them.

But there are lots of excellent steak shops all over the city. Two of my favorites are Jim's Steaks (South Street) and Steve's Prince of Steaks (Northeast Philly).

Another vote for Jim's on South Street. Yum!

I like Jim's, but I haven't eaten a a lot of places. Pat's and Geno's is interesting to go to just to see the 2 shops across from each other and see the people lined up.

Jim's is good but I also like Tony Luke's.

We ate at Pat's once and it wasn't very good. We'll be in Philly this winter and we'll be trying some place else.

Never been to Philly, but this sounds like a case of where you might have to try sandwiches from more than one location.:)

Last year my brother and I, along with 2 friends from St. Louis, went on a mini cheesesteak tour of Philly. We ate at Pat's, Geno's, and Jim's. We absolutely liked Jim's the best, Pat's was a close second, and we did not like Geno's at all. Keep in mind Jim's has indoor seating, Pat's and Geno's have outdoor picnic tables and counters only. Also, make sure you know how to order the sandwiches correctly. We saw people get sent to the back of the line at Pat's.

First of all, put Pats and Geno's out of your mind - they stink!
My vote is for Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave or Jim's on South Street.:thumbsup2

I grew up out in the 'burbs, so my favorite is Pudges :)

That being said, most places in Philly that are Pizza places that also offer steak sandwiches are gonna be pretty darn good. I've only ever eaten at Genos & Pats once when I had a friend visiting from out of town. I was very unimpressed.

Really, stay away from tourist traps. Go to the neighborhood joint, they'll have good ones. ::yes::

I would say Jim's, however I think most places in Philly and the burbs are pretty good. If you served a bad cheesesteak in the Philly area you would not be in business for very long.
