Do you understand the appeal of those little "send a heart" "send a hug" "send a candycane" etc etc applications that people seem so fond of using? I have like 50 of them piled up that I need to go in and "ignore." What is the purpose of doing those things? Not to offend any of you, just help me understand.

I use FB to socialize/chat, photo-share, and play a few a few arcade-style games (like Tetris). Oh...and those Living Social pick-top-five thingie (LOVE that, ha ha!)

What do you use it for most?

I want to put something on my profile stating somehow "do not send me anything!" but I don't want to seem like a witch, you know?

I don't use those apps either and I also don't see the point of them. I'm like you in that I use FB to socialize, chat, post photos and keep our family & friends (whom we don't live near) updated.

:rotfl2: OMG, I am so the same way. And ya know what, I don't care if a lonely brown cow wandered onto your farm!! I want to see your pictures, read your updates, see what's going on in your life. If your cafe needs more workers or you got yourself a strawberry plant, you cares!!! :headache:

Okay, rant over. I feel better now that I know someone else thinks the same way. :rotfl: :rotfl:

As those types of things pop up on my news page, I just go to the right and ignore the applications I don't want to see all the time. It gives you the option of ignoring the person or just the application. I choose the application and it has dramatically cut down on the amount of junk I see in my news feed.

You know you can block stuff like Farmville on your feeds then you won't have to worry about those lonley cows!:teeth:

I sometimes use the other apps as a way of saying hi to friends that I don't necessarily talk to on a regular basis. I only use them with people who are already using that app. And it woldn't bother me a bit if they just hit ignore, at least they know I am thinking about them.:) I ignore my share of 'stuff'.;)

I do have a lot of older relatives who started on FB just for things like Farmville. That is great for them, but I think they need to learn how to use (or NOT use) the "publish" button.

thanks, I'm going to do that. I love Facebook, but I hate these little things.

Ckay87 - You need to learn how to use the "hide" option. If you don't want to see Farmville, Farmtown, Mafia Wars etc click the hide button and hide that application.
Some of us don't have a life other than Farmville, Island Paradise, etc and we WANT to see when our friends have found a lonely brown cow that needs a home.
Just saying...........:rolleyes1

I get a ton of those and ignore them as well. I'll have to learn how to use that "hide" feature; I love Facebook as a way to connect with family members out of state/country without the :scared1: phone bill, but I don't ever play those games, just because I haven't the time.

Noted....and don't take it personally, there is nothing wrong with enjoying Farmville, etc. I see those games as a lot more fun than the hearts, hugs, and drinks, you know? That's more of what I was wondering about. Farmville & Mafia Wars are games that I would totally be playing if I could. But some of the other stuff I don't get.

I am using that "hide" button more. I guess I had to get over how wrong it felt to ignore and hide a hug from my mother! LOL!

when you DO play those applications (farmville) for example, all of those updates are important. infact, if you go to farmville.com they have a feed that funnels everyones farmville updates together, so players can adopt those lonely cows, or fertilize other players farms.

that being said, there are many applications hidden from my news/live feed

"hide" is my favorite button on facebook. lol

I love the Dis. I didn't realize the Hide button on Facebook would hide all those lonely brown cows and "someone sent me a smile" stuff (nicer word than "crap" :lmao: ).

So thank you Dis'ers! :thumbsup2 When I get back on Facebook I'm going to start "hiding" all that stuff!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Same here. Whenever I get one, I just ignore/delete it. :)

Anytime I get any of those I not only ignore them but block the application. Just by accepting those kinds of gifts you are accepting the T&Cs of the application which usually allow for the application provider to take all of your personal information. Many times it also exposes all of your friend's information.

I only use Facebook for the core purpose, socializing.

I'm so glad to see this thread. I'm new to FB, can someone please help me out and tell me exactly where to find the hide button. I can't find it to save my life.

TIA.

I agree with you; I play Farmville and Cafe World, but if I published every little thing that came up, my Facebook friends would kill me, I'm sure. :rotfl:

Nope. I ignore them all. I just don't have time for that stuff.

Farmville is the only game I play and I always hope that my friends who don't play know how to hide it! I know how annoying it can be. I hid Mafia Wars and a few others that were getting to be too much. I also play Bejewled Blitz, but I don't brag, I mean post my scores
But with Farmville, believe me, other players want to know when you find a golden egg :rolleyes1, otherwise I wouldn't post that stuff either.

I hide a lot of the games that I don't want to see. I also ignore a lot of the smiles, hugs, hearts, etc sent to me. I just don't have time to respond to them or send back. One friend posts a 'Thank You' for every single of of these she gets. :sad2: Talk about clogging up your page. :sad2:
