What do you use to make your competion signs? The ones we have used in the past have seen better days. We need to make new ones. But we can't figure out what to use. The old ones were like a 1/4 inch thick with a foam middle. The person that made them for us in the passed has moved so we are on our own. We are a small club and can't afford to buy custom made ones. Can anyone help me out?

I don't know about your area but having a custom made sign, small ones like 11x14 or so only costs about $30. Have you checked into pricing? I am not a cheer mom but we had some signs made for something else and they were a lot less expensive then I thought.

I will look in the phone book today. We would need 8 signs. The parents are getting tapped between uniforms and such so we are trying to cut cost where we can.

:cheer2: :cheer2: I called a local place they quoted me $200. It is still more then I want to spend but we will see. Anyone know what to use for a DIY cheer sign?

Wow!! We have entirely too much in common!! :teeth:

We do get ours custom made - we can get a 16x20 sign done here for about $10 - but we've made cardboard ones for them to practice with.

Haven't tried it - but could you spray paint a cardboard one?? And then use paint and stencils (unless you've got someone pretty artsy to freehand it).

Got anyone on your squad with family that has ever run for a local office that might have some of their campaigning signs lying around?

If I can find the type of board I am looking for an art teacher that my mom works with said she would help. But we are having a hard time finding this foam board. THe hard plastic ones scare me when the girls use them when stunting. At competion last year I saw a girl get hurt with a sign like that when her liberty went wrong.

We do have too much in common at times too bad we are not in the same RR town. ;)

They don't have it at an art supply place?? Are you talking about the squishy type stuff used for little kid's puzzles?

Kind of like the puzzle stuff, the thing is I haven't had an hour to drive to go looking for it. The joys of living in the middle of no where. I guess I was just hoping for a name so I could call and ask before I drive out.

Cheer Coach of 12 years here...

When we did make them ourselves we would use foam poster board. It was light and easy to work with. Sometimes we would paint them with stencils but the most fun was using stencils for letters and then filling the letters in with lots of glitter. The foam board was at places like Pat Catans and JoAnn's.

Then, we got tired of the signs wearing out so quickly and not being able to use them during the rain. So, we went to a professional sign place and had them made on a VERY light/not heavy board material that was corrugated (sp?) and waterproof. They used a vinyl lettering on both sides. I believe for us to get about 9 signs front and back cost us $150 I think.

They have lasted at least 8 years so far....with lots of use.

I understand about the parents being tapped out. We got our boosters to help with things like this because they were not personal items for the girls. They are considered school property.

Good luck......... :cheer2:

Thanks I am going to keep your name in mind with more questions. A friend of mine had to close her dance studio last year. Now she is running a cheer club, so we are basically starting from scratch. She only had one squad at the studio with 5 pee wee girls. Now she is up to 15 pee wee, 13 mini, and 14 youth. We have a lot of uniforms to get among other things. The girls are selling cookie dough right now and we are asking local businesses for donations. Some parents I think are in shock with the actual costs of everything.

maybe I will see you at the Arnold Classic. We took the pee wee group last year and were so out of our league. Hopefully this year we can atleast look like we belong there. We took the girls just to local highschool competitions and the Arnold one.

I don't know what competitions you go to....what companies, but one of the most reasonably priced ones are run by All Star Cheerleading. They are run fairly and are run so nicely and efficiently. They have lots of competitions.

Last year we did the Cheer 4 Less ones. I will have the coach look into All Star Cheerleading too.

Cheer 4 Less is the same company as All Star Cheerleading. Cheer 4 Less is the clothing division. Run by same person. I am pretty good friends with her.

There are also a couple of High Schools that run their own. The big companies are also very good but you have to be kind of picky about where it is hosted. You also have to be prepared to pay more $$ for them, unfortunately.

I averaged attending probably 5 or 6 All Star (Cheer4Less) ones and then about 5 or 6 bigger company ones. A VERY good competition to go watch is the Americheer Ohio Champioships in Nov! One of the best Ohio has to offer. If you don't compete in it then watching it is totally worth it!
