Hesitating to book ‘21 l trip before I bank points.

Tell me if I’m being overly cautious - I have an April use year and have a February ‘ 21trip booked with 2020 current use year points. We fully expect to cancel this because of Covid concerns and obviously would have to do this before November so we can bank points. If I go ahead and book a trip now for later in 2021 before I bank 2020 points is there a chance MS will not let me Reallocate points when and if I bank this use year? Is that guaranteed? Just concerned about the new situation with Covid and everything. Thx.

You’d be able to reallocate later after you bank - you’d just modify the reservation, select the contract with the banked points, and it would use the banked points first.

The two temporary rules in effect are the 50% restriction on borrowing, and the unwritten rule allowing borrowed points on cancelled reservations to go back to the original UY. That last can go away at any time without notice.

Very easy to do yourself. The only thing you don’t want to do is borrow points if you are going to bank later as that temporary rule to put them back can be stopped at anytime,

But, as mentioned, once you bank, then modify, follow to the end without changing and book, There is a glitch that seems to show it won’t be taking all the banked...if they are in more than one contract...but once booked, it does.

Maybe in an extreme worst case scenario where you're using banked 2020 points for a 2021 trip and COVID flares up and causes the resort to close, flights to get cancelled, or any number of things that gets you to no longer go. In that case you could lose your points so it's not guaranteed. But it's no more uncertain than your current booking.

As we also have an APR use year... are you going to WDW in 2020? If not, bank those points. You don't HAVE to wait until the last minute to do so.

Just an opinion: I would cancel the FEB 2021 trip, and bank THOSE points into the APR 2021 Use Year. It's not just WDW.... airlines and various states are just not operational .

We banked all of our 2020 points to 2021 quite some time ago. Already booked for APR 2021.
