I'm new to the boards (posting anyway - I have been reading about the wish adventures for months) so I'm a little hesitant to ask - but I was wondering is anyone else walking the 5K?

I'm afraid I won't keep that 15min/mile pace - though I REALLY want to finish in about 45 minutes.

I'm walking! Normally I run, but I'm doing this race with my aunt. She's never really run and she had knee surgery this year. She was determined to run a little bit of the 5K, but then last week she broke her toe! So, we'll be in the back of the pack. She does walk to work every day so I think she'll be OK for the 15 min/mile limit but we'll see. It's going to be hard for me to not run, but I'm going to try to just spend the time soaking up the atmosphere. :)

I'll be walking as well since doing the 15K on Sat and want to make sure I don't over due it.

I'm going to try a walk/run combo, but we're doing the 15K on Sunday too, so probably most walking. Both my parents and my sister/BIL are doing it and they will be walking. They are hoping to keep the pace and not get swept too.

Im glad to hear that I won't be the only one - Im so afraid that this little 5k is going to be the death of me.

I can walk the first mile in the 15 min/mil pace it's the second and third that I worry about. I have pretty bad ankle problems and while I have good shoes i still get the cramps and pain associated with it!

My sister walked the 5K with my mom and they finished in about 53 minutes... I jogged ahead of them ... there were no sweepers in sight... it was my mom's first (and probably last) event and she looked so cute with her medal! ... can't promise no sweepers this year but hopefully it will all work out for you! Good luck! :thumbsup2

I'll be walking the 5k too! And don't worry about the sweepers. They'll be too busy trying to pull me from the course to worry about anyone else.:rotfl2:

I have never done a 15 minute mile, but I'm not going to let that stop me from making a valiant attempt.

I'll be walking most of it since I am doing the 15K on Sunday, I might run a little, I'd like to do it in 40 minutes.

Will any of you walkers be wearing a WISH shirt? I won't, but I'll say hi to anybody who has one! I think I might be wearing a Minnie ear headband and I have some LGMHs I could pin onto the front or back of my shirt.

All 6 of us in my clan should be wearing WISH shirts (some will be the eye2eye shirts w/ the castle on front and two of the boys will have camo look WISH shirt and 1 or 2 of us may be in the plain lime green) and I'm hoping to grab a Minnie Ears headband to wear for the 5K. Doubt I'll wear it for the 15K though.

I think I'll be doing a combo of jogging and walking. I'm afraid if I run the 5K I'll be done in for the day and I want to do "fun" stuff the rest of the day Sat. The early wake-up time is enough to kick my tush!:lmao: I know I'll want to run it when it starts but I'll have to keep thinking about the rest of the day!!:goodvibes

Thanks everyone!

I think we're going to hang out after the 5K as well (we have seasonal passes) just to see some of the flower and garden festival. Im excited about this - my father had heart disease so the american heart association is near and dear to me - Im hoping that I can just get in between the 45 and 50 minute mark!

Today's walk is going to be my longest yet - 2.8 miles.

DH, DSis & I are all walking. We'll be in the back of the pack with our red tank tops and "breakthrough Minnie's/Mickey" like this design -

We're all in town to celebrate DH's 80th birthday so if you see us, wish him (Bill) a happy birthday!

See ya there.

I don't know what we'll be wearing yet, but I'll be looking for all of you guys!

Did I read this right? Your DH, Bill is turning 80 and doing the 5K??? If so, that is just amazing. So comendable and what a great example! Please go ahead and congratulate him for me!

My dad is 73 and will be attempting his first 5K. I hope he makes it in the required time. He's not been able to train too much due to a knee problem.

All the best!

Yep, let's hope it's a good day for him (and me)! He's been doing about 2-3 miles/4-5x week so we'll see. Hopefully the humidity won't be too much for him as he's only been working out in the gym up until now.

i'll be looking for everyone - hopefully I'll find a "walking buddy" that morning - I know I can't run any of it but maybe talking through the whole 3.1 miles will get me going. I am getting excited but yet nervous too!

I know Im not an official wish team member - but I hope to meet some of you all! :)

Kristina ~ if you are posting here you are an "official" WISH team member. As long as you are inspired to stay healthy then you are a WISH team member.

Everyone - good luck in the 5k.

heartbeebs - tell your DH happy birthday and WOW how awesome he is that active. I am keeping my fingers crossed for an EXCELLENT day for everyone!!

Talk about firsts! This is my first time on the site as well as my first 5k! I am not a walker...avoid exercising whenever I can! Wouldn't you know that only a certain Mouse could inspire me to do this. I too am nerveous about keeping up the pace. I think given the time I can do the distance but do hate the idea of being dragged off the course by that certain Mouse! Krispy-maybe we can keep each other going. I will be walking with my mom and 16 year old daughter (daughter already said she was going to ditch us as she wants that medal). My husband is not a Disney fan (who knew) and my daughter and I make an annual pilgrimage from Ga. This year we decided to combine our trip (usually in Jan) with this ambitious goal. I will be walking to honor my best friend who lost his fight aganist melanoma last Nov.....even after this LONG post trying to convince myself I can do it...still doubt it! Glad to hear the threat of sweepers might be an urban legend!
