Just received a price drop notification from Hotwire that Hertz is offering an Economy Rental Car for $7 per day out of MCO (Orlando Airport). You can also check out Expedia, Southwest Airlines, Orbitz, etc. and they are matching that price and also offer FREE Cancellation. I booked with Expedia and my cost for 13 days for the beginning of April (Spring Break) was $151 TOTAL, including taxes and fees. Might be worth checking out your dates:banana:

One warning about economy cars.... will it fill all four members of the family and LUGGAGE?

Make sure you are indeed OK with economy which is the size of Toyota Yaris. It would be very expensive if you decide to upgrade at the airport.

Great deal! But I agree with others - make sure you can truly fit in an economy car. Having just rented a Hertz economy a couple weeks ago, we were given a Chevy Spark (http://www.chevrolet.com/spark-city-car.html). It was roughly the size of a roller skate. It barely fit the two of us and our luggage (and we only had 1 regular size suitcase and 1 carry-on size). The regular suitcase wouldn't fit in the "trunk" so we had to lay it across the backseat.

The economy size cars at Hertz are definitely not family friendly.

Thanks so much! I just booked a car for my spring break trip mid-March and it was just under $100 for 9 days. :cool1:

I'll be going in January with 4 adults for 10 days (meaning, we'd need a full size SUV to fit us and our luggage). Instead of renting a larger car, we're renting economy and utilizing Magic Express. When we land, I'll go pick up the rental car while the other 3 take ME to Pop Century. ME will take everyone's luggage if at least 1 person from the group rides. After meeting back up at Pop, we'll run off property for a grocery/wine run (I refuse to pay $40 for grocery delivery...). We also scheduled all the things we'd need(prefer) the car for in the first 7 days of the trip (Crystal Palace ADRs 1 hr before rope drop, dinner at other resorts, 2 days at Universal, etc.). We're dropping the car off at the Car Care Center on day 8, and just using the buses for the last 2 days.

We originally looked at just renting a car for 2.5 days to get to Universal. But it was cheaper to rent for 7 days from the airport than for 2.5 from the CCC.

I'm assuming that you are doing either National or Alamo, since Hertz does not have a presence at the Car Care Center? Wouldn't it be cheaper to have everyone ride DME and pick up the car at the CCC so that you don't have to pay airport fees and the cost of a one-way rental? You could even pick up at the Dolphin if the CCC is not convenient. In either case, Alamo/National will send a van to pick you up from your resort so that you can get your car.

I tried to do this thru southwest and could not. Is there a code? Would like to get free cancellation.

I wonder if it is because my dates are in December. Anyone else getting this?

Sorry, not sure about December and January rental dates.
I was surprised that they had the deal all the way out to April, so I assumed it was probably good for all the other months.:confused3

Darn...just checked Hertz for our October trip on the Hertz site and Southwest and the rate is out of sight...nearly $400 for six days. Obviously not valid during the last week of October, or else there is a code you need to enter.

I priced out a number of different options. National was always at least twice the Alamo price. With Alamo a Thurs-Thurs airport to CCC rental was $190, vs $310 to both pick up and drop off at the CCC. Makes no sense to me, but I'm not spending an extra $120 just to take DME with the rest of my party. Just renting from the CCC for 2.5 days (for our Universal days) was $182. Totally worth $8 more to us to have it for a few more days.

I tried F eb. Dates the 6-14th, and did jnot get those prices.

How could you fit your family and luggage into a roller skate? Also with the cheapest cars, not a big deal for me but there was no electric window. I had to crank up the window but my young son could not do his.

Make sure also the car has air conditioning.

I have a reservation for the end of Feb. but I had to go to the Kayak site first and through them I was able to access the Hertz site and economy class. Going right to Hertz.com did not bring up economy cars.
