Its an idea I've had as we all love recipe swaps so much (making them is less fattening than cooking :lmao: ) and the current recipe swaps are winding up

The idea is to pass on a recipe that is special to you - either its something you've always cooked as a family favourite (especially those recipes no-one would ever think of, if you see what I mean :goodvibes ), or that you HAVE to serve at Christmas or birthday, or that's special to the area you live or the area/country you or your family come from (like I would do Hungarian recipes as DH's family are from there). We could have groups for family, Christmas/holidays and international, or multiples if we all get really enthusiastic :goodvibes

All we need is a space on the calendar (November finish looks good) and a hostess - unless you want to post everything to me in the UK. I'm happy to host but the cost might be an issue, especially if you all want loads of groups:)

What do you all think?

This sounds like a really nice idea to me! :teeth: I'd be willing to co-host it with you...but I have a question.

I know the current recipe swaps here have been done at something like 8.5 x 5.5. Is there a reason for that size? I do recipe swaps on another board and we do the 6x6 - which allows you to get 4 pages per sheet of paper and is still big enough for a standard 3x5 recipe format with room for embellishments. I wouldn't mind doing another size because I'd put these in a separate book than my others - regardless. I'm just wondering... ;)

I would be interested in doing them. We have some great family recipes of course I weill have to figure out amounts as many of them are a pinch or a little of this and that.

We started doing them at the 8.5 x 5.5 because it took a half of the size sheet that fit in our printer and staples had the right size binders and page protectors for them. We have continued in this size so people can simple add to that album. Of course at this point I have so many I need a new album for the next 2 swaps we are working on.

Most people don't have the 12 by 12 format printers to print on (although I do). I wouldn't even know how to print on a 3 by 5 card.

Ah - I get it. But we don't print on the 12x12 paper or CS. We use those sheets as the background and print on something else that's 8.5 x 11. The recipe becomes one of the layers. I just have a spiral bound Canson 6x6 to which I adhere the finished recipes. I've pulled the spiral out (it didn't have enough pages to suit me) and I'll eventually put ribbons in instead. I'm pretty close to being there now...my stack of recipes is currently 3" high! :lmao:

I'd be interested. I'm not the greatest cook and could use some recipes and my mom has lots of great greek recipes I can steal from to swap:scared1:

Ooooh! I had a lovely sort of cheesy/mayo type dip at a greek restaurant lately - does she have that one?

I need another binder too - the covers of mine are parallel now even though I have some pockets left :rolleyes1

Happy to co-host with you piratesmate. Would a finish around November be good for you? Then if we want them for Christmas gifts we should get them back in time (even me!) :goodvibes

Mazda- do you need me to get another one for you when I order mine and mail it with the seasonal swap or can you get them over there?

Rebecca

If we're looking for a mid-November finish, would beginning of September be a good sign-up time? I'm away the end of August and I don't want to miss anything:rolleyes1

That sound like a great time since for a lot of us kids have started back in school then! Probably not so great for the teacher's!

That start time works for me. I'll have my recipes ready :teeth:

That works for me. ;) Are there many teachers who like to do the recipe swaps? Maybe we could make a group just for them and let them sign up early so they would know how many to make and they could start before going back to school if they want? I know it sounds convoluted, but having been a teacher I understand that it's tough to commit to things in Sept, but equally tough to miss out....just a thought.

We could start sign-ups earlier - I was concerned about people being on holiday and missing out (i.e. me! :rotfl2: ) How about opening sign-ups 1 August - if you don't mind a 2-week gap with nothing being updated?

I love doing recipe swaps. I actually start back to school in August but with a couple of months to get things done. September to November if you really want to do it you can find some time.

I think we should just keep to the Sept sign-ups. When it drags on too long, people tend to forget about it.

I would have to agree with that. August is getting ready for school start-up, and vacas, maybe a trip to the World! (we are in the "discussion stage", which means I'm jumping up and down :yay: and :worship: while Dh is being cool :cool2: ...hmmmm, counting $$$ and DVC points tomorrow) :cool1: :cloud9:

 for maybe! When in August? We will be there the 4th till the 9th.
