i want to take my granddaughter, currently age 2 1/2, on a trip in about a year

i was going to do a trip with dh only, but i just can't imagine not taking "t" for the first time next time i go

so dh and i have picked something else for us to do

back to my disney related question, especially for those who have been to both parks: it seems to me that it would be easier to take a small child to DLR rather than WDW at that age

i know WDW is doable with a small child...we did with DS1 in '88 and he was a bit over 2

BUT, back then there were two parks and 3 hotels + FW

I just got back from Disneyland a few weeks ago and I had my 3 children with me my youngest turned 2 while we where there. He was able to go on almost every ride and was excited to see all the characters. I was a little worried about him sitting still through the shows but he did great, so I think Disneyland is a great place to start off with a little one.. Have a great trip.. Oh yeah and don't forget to try the Tigger Tails they are great!!!

DS has been there at 1, 2, and twice at 3 so far. It's been fine.

But a trip alone with a grandparent or two would NOT be happening for me, b/c we have no trustworthy grandparents. So I can't relate at all to that part of it!

i went soooo many places with my grandparents...my only trip to DL was because i traveled from chicago to san diego with my nana on amtrak to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins

my son has already said i could take her and i'm actually expecting him to want to go, too, which would totally be fine with me

oh, and what's a tigger tail!

Tigger tail is some sort of marshmallow creation. Never had one b/c I'm vegetarian and marshmallows are not.

NOt to be confused with a Tiger Tail, from Bengal BBQ, which is some sort of breadstick. :)

If only my mom were still around, she could have taken my boy anywhere. But my dad is nutso and my MIL is, well, I have no good things to say about her today, as I found out she is still calling my husband a "pig" in her native language. Harumph.

thanks for telling me what a tigger tail is

is it a DL thing like a dole whip is a wdw thing?

and i had NO idea marshmallows weren't vegetarian

What about a marshmellow isn't vegetarian? Just curious.

Oh and enjaj40... a dole whip is most certainly a DL thing on these boards :thumbsup2 We LOVE them around here:rotfl:

A Tigger Tail is 3 marshmellows on a stick, dipped in orange chocolate and drizzled with chocolate. Looks just like Tigger's tail. I've never had one myself because orange chocolate just isn't my thing but others around here seem to love them!

Enya (i like that music artist btw)....I think DLR is easier with a todler than WDW because:

- No long bus rides (or waiting on buses).
- Easier to tour early, take a mid day nap & tour in the evening. (crowd patterns make this easier as well.)
- FL can be "walk on" rides if you're there at rope drops.
- Easier to hop. (& DCA has fun areas for toddler....flik's area, redwood romping area etc.)

& fwiw, regarding Tigger Tails...it's dipped in caramel prior to be dipped in chocolate (I almost lost a tooth in one :rotfl: .)

I may get shunned for saying this but right now I just have no desire to go to Disneyworld until my son is much older. (he's 4 now). DL is just perfect for us, I know it pretty well and getting to and from is a breeze for us. Considering how spread out DW is I'd rather do that when my son is at least 8 or 9???

I think you're absolutely right to wait on WDW with little ones. We just did 10 days in WDW with our 2 and 4 yr olds and I wouldn't do it again. Yes, florida has some things that DL doesn't but hands down, DL is better for us. It's reasonable to go back for naps to the hotel in DL, everything is close by and there is so much more to do in a single park than there is in the Magic Kingdom.
We love Disneyland and are quite happy to keep that our main focus for many years to come.
