watch Black Fish on Netflix. My DD loves Seaworld. Now she refuses to ever give them her money again. It was a very interesting movie.

It was a biased documentary, like all documentaries. It only shows you what they want you to see.

So I guess she's not going to Disney ever again, either? After all, they keep animals in captivity, too.

Counting down until this thread gets closed ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ....

Seaworld does some pretty awesome things, like helping many of the marine mammals who wash ashore, saving Sea Turtles, rescuing Manatees, etc. While I don't think it right to keep large whales in captivity, they can't be released successfully so it is what it is. I prefer to look at the big picture, not just what one documentary says.

I know, she's not crazy about Animal Kingdom. But thinks they have a lot more room than the whates at SeaWorld. I liked Sea World and someday wanted to do Discovery Cove

Your TEEN made a decision based on a one sided movie. I am sure Sea World and those who enjoy the park will not miss her. I am sure the animals Sea World rescues and rehabs each year will continue to be rescued. The education and conservation efforts will continue despite this so called "interesting" movie.

If this is REALLY an issue for her- she needs to not give WDW her money either. Epcot has even smaller tanks.

OH PLEASE!! I am so sick of this topic on these boards! Don't ya'll have anything better to do than bash Blackfish?? The mods have said before not to start these types of threads, so for the love of Pete~Let It GOOOOO!

I am more concerned that as a teen she is making such dramatic statements based on only seeing one side of an issue and from an extremely biased and not scientific source. You should teach her to research things better before coming to any conclusions. She is old enough to know you should look at both sides of an issue and from actual reliable sources.

What would her hastily reached opinion based on emotions have to do with if you ever go to Discovery Cove?

never mind, feel free to delete the thread. Just thought it was a tongue in cheek way to save money by not having to do Seaworld. Didn't mean to create a big debate

Why is there no "unlike" button? :confused3

The rescue efforts of sea world doesn't negate the problems of whales in captivity. It is also crazy that people jump and start generalizing. Animal kingdom has nothing to do with whales in captivity. And yes I done my research before the documentary even came out.

It's nice to see people who can watch a "documentary" like Blackfish and understand that it is a bias documentation. As someone who personally works with exotics animals, it's frustrating to have those who have no experience cite something they heard on Animal Planet as fact. Please realize that shows that are on Animal Planet, documentaries like Blackfish and The Elephant in the Living Room are made with an agenda. Drama sells and they play off the public's fear.

Teens??? Adults do this every day watching network news and believing everything they are fed by companies who are extremely biased and are brainwashing half of this country! Everyone should take everthing they read or watch with a grain of salt and do their own research and thinking. So many people take a news story or documentary as gospel because they are too lazy to do their homework.

I'm just wondering as a teen, how much money she would have to give them any way. My teens didn't have enough to worry about giving to them at that age. They also didn't have the option if I said that was where we were going. :confused3

Oh I 100% agree! I would just like to hope that maybe we could start getting people to not do this it would stay with them into adulthood!
