What makes fluorescent colours… fluoresce? And what's the deal with ultra-violet light? You can't really see it, but it makes certain colours, including white, stand out. Weird, huh?

I must not have helped my husband study that chapter when he was taking the physics of light and color way back when. I'm sure I could ask him, but truthfully I'd probably nod off before he finished the explanation so I still wouldn't be able to report back.

Advanced mathematics and science tend to elude me. A friend who took Maths in University tried to describe to me "Imaginary Numbers" but it just made my head throb.

From what I remember, but I'm not positive, the colors in a fluorescent light depend on the gasses used in the light. Apply an electric charge to the gasses = colored light.
