There are some quests where it's sometimes difficult to get to the next location in the time allowed (for example, because you need to ride the monorail, or make it through a series of rooms), and so I had to start back 3 steps and re-do it.

On the next time through, though, I simply did NOT click the "Next task" button until I was close to the room I needed to go to (1 room away, actually), and THEN pressed the Q button -> Next Task. Yay! The timer started with the full 4 or 5 minutes to go :)

So, bottom line: the Quest timer does NOT start ticking until after you press the Next Task button (although the TOTAL time taken for the quest does continue ticking).

(And, of course, if you don't click Next Task, then you won't see the next task hint, so it's not a "cheat" the first time through.)

Hope anyone finds this helpful.

Nice hint Be :thumbsup2

Great hints, thanks!

Here's another, that's more of a request for manners...
When you are doing a quest where you have to walk over something, please try to move off of it ASAP, even though there is a dialog box telling you about the quest.

Some people start answering the next question but they are hogging up the one and only space that others can use.

I think i know which u are talking about, and i ran through the mansion, went to the queue marker at the station*unless there was already a train there then waited for it to leave then went to it*, then ran across the train to the other side and got to where i needed with plenty of time to spare. The key is being already on the marker before a train arrives.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but one thing I've found that helps me get through quickly, and avoid rude players, is to play in Advanced Mode.

You can usually find a room with nobody in it and spot the items your looking for easier.

Agreed -- I was rather embarrassed when I found that I was so excited about correctly getting past another quest task, that I was busily reading about the next task, while sitting on "the spot".

It's easy to forget that all you have to do is click someplace in the room, even if there are Quest and PM windows up, and you'll still move.

I wonder if VMK will consider making those "special spots" into places where multiple people can go at once? Kind of like entrance / exit spots.
