But you'd still know you were positive, so that would be deceptive (just like boarding a plane while positive would be deceptive), and endanger the housekeeper & the next guests who occupied your room.

Lets be real people are traveling with symptoms and covid positive, like it or not its happening, just like every other illness. Can't control what other people do, so you have to take your assessment of what risk you are comfortable with. Not saying it is what someone should do, but just being realistic.

I agree. People are going to be traveling over the holidays with covid who are asymptomatic....they have no idea. Others will be traveling with what they think is a cold...but they didn't take a rapid test before departing....and they have covid. This is the wave that is going to infect millions of Americans. The hope is that most will be fine....I believe that's the case. But people really do need to assess their own risks right now when it comes to travel. Think two steps ahead, which is what we're doing in our family. Our elderly parents are staying home, back to grocery delivery. And DH and I are avoiding any indoor gatherings with people so that we can spend Christmas with our parents. If you're traveling you just have to really weigh all of the possibilities right now. It's unlikely that the cruise lines will change protocols in the short term....by the time they do, it's likely omicron will have run its course through the country.

I hope I dont get in trouble for saying this, but this is why things look different in the EU vs. the US. Here in Germany and many other countries they are looking for the needles in the haystacks ( asymtomatics). For example, kids have been tested since school start this year at least 3x a week in school, to find asymtomatic cases. Not just school but many other places. so of course numbers went up, since numbers went up, restrictions go up. Now for restaurants, some stores, and health clubs etc.. you have to be fully vaxed AND have a quick antigen test. If you are boosted you are exempt. I went to see the latest spiderman with my DD, who is fully vaxxed and not boosted, they tested at a pop-up testing tent at the theater.

her BF, fully vaxxed got an in-school postive, follow-up at the DR with a PCR test. positive. Fully vaxxed 15 year-old, had headache for one day, in quarantine over Christmas for 14 days ( and yes our health departments calle EVERY day to check if you are following this rule).

Just one other thing, here in Germany the antigen fast test is used to screen, if positive you then go get a PCR. The KPI "postive rate" here is based on only the Positive PCR test group. And with so many being tested daily, you are screening out most negatives with the antigen, hence the really high postive rate based off the PCR. It's the development over time that matters here.
When my 10 yr old had it, his only real symtom was a headache for a day and being tired. Had HE not told me that a kid on his team tested positive, I'd have never tested him and he'd have gone to school the next day. No one in his class had to quarantine even tho it turned out 4 kids in the class were positive that week (they did have to stay home) and the school never alerted any of the parents that several kids were sick. But seriously, had I not known from him about the other exposures, I'd have just thought he had a normal headache (he has bad allergies so sinus headaches aren't uncommon) and not given it a second thought. I didn't even think it would be positive, but I didn't want to be the jerk who sends their kid to school and gets everyone else sick. So I just tested him so I'd feel better lol.

No, it doesn't. 48 mostly asymptomatic, mostly vaccinated passengers/crew out of more than 6,000? Not a particular concern for me.
They have 6000 people? Dang what’s their capacity? 12,000 with crew? Must be a huge ship!

I’m glad this latest virus is mild, that’s great(hopefully not until it changes) but with the multiplication every 1-3 days….:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: at some point they are going to lock us all in our cabins to avoid transmission??? I have a veranda for Jan 8. Now I’m packing board games! Absolutely could happen even if we don’t come down with it because we were exposed to patient “zero” from the cruise and considered likely to come down with it.

Not have read everything, but keep flexibilty in mind. Europe is closing down again. My country(NL) has imposed a lockdown for the next 4 weeks, Germany will probably impose a lockdown after the holidays, the UK is not far behind with their decision on the lockdown.

This morning I read something in the Dutch news that the US is concerned about how Omicron is developing.

Don't get discouraged, but be realistic, things might change again.

My voice is terrible....always soft, always sounds like I have a sore throat. Before people would say, "hope you feel better:. now I just wonder if they think "covid, covid". It's meant like this for 15 years. Been to dr and tested and tried a procedure....still sounds and feels like I've sung for a month .

my friend and I were just talking about how now everytime we sneeze or cough we feel like we need to say "NOT COVID!!!" lol.

A week or so ago I was on the city bus and had one of those tickle in my throat coughing fits. I was masked and covering my mouth/nose in my elbow. But one woman kept GLARING at me.

The most ironic part?

SHE was unmasked.

I wanted to be snarky and say "Well, you wouldn't have to be so worried if you has a mask on now, would you?" but it's Brooklyn, so I just kept quiet.

I have MS and a bad thyroid, and my voice is hoarse and raspy more often than not. People side eye me all the time now and ask if I'm sick. I assume they don't believe me when I say no, but what can I do?

Just love how again the cruise industry is highlighted in the media again.
Well, not just the cruise industry being highlighted in the media. The impact on the NFL, NBA, College Sports, Broadway Shows and the Rockettes canceling their entire Christmas season have all been highlighted in the media in recent days.

It may disrupt travel but not for long, it is already peaked in South Africa. With how much faster it will help it peak faster also. Plus its time to start living with it and not talking about every asymptomatic case, even the NFL is just announced they aren't going to test people with no symptoms only those with symptoms.
Those with no symptoms, unfortunately, are just as contagious to others.

If you are forced to quarantine in your room on DCL, do you get any money back from the cruise?
YES - DCL is giving pro-rated refunds if you are quarantined to your stateroom due to covid (either positive test or close-contact).

but are they? And to what extent if they are? If you have noticed there has been very little in the news about asymptomatic spread anymore and it’s still been more debated and has heavily relied on people self reporting and let’s be real many will lie about having symptoms.

I will send you a PM since we can't discuss this on this forum publically.

I keep reading here and elsewhere most people lately who are positive only seem to have a headache. I’m curious if these are vaccinated people with Delta or if this is a light symptoms from omicron? 🤷‍♀️ Need to Google hunt.

Omicron is a bit different, the first doctor in South Africa said that one of the differences is that smell and taste remain like normal.

That is good to hear. I am not cruising until August, but my biggest fear is to spend thousands of dollars for an Alaskan cruise, and then have to miss all of it due to being stuck in my room.
