Good morning! Checking out of OKW today and heading to Universal. Wanted to do a quick
post of hits/misses thus far. Overall it's been a phenomenal vacation celebrating my daughters Sweet 16!!
It's me, dd 16, DS 18. So keep in mind no small kids. Ride recommendations below geared toward older teens/adults.
Many more hits than misses!
PLEASE realize these are MY opinions. I would appreciate no unkind responses (yes this has happened to me here!! Lol). Hope these help some of you:
HITS
1. It seems almost everyone is celebrating something and wearing a pin showing it! We received a couple of happy birthday songs, cards from characters, and special desserts as well as one set of fast passes to Crush at Epcot. All very appreciated. Also many happy birthdays from cast members!
2 Disney bus system overall pretty great. Hotel stop had screen with arrival times for buses to each park which was helpful. Ran from very early in morning.
3. UBER! We are at OKW and were at FW last night. It was raining and we were literally five minutes from our resort. The trip back would have been bus to Disney Springs. Another bus to OKW. With waits likely 45 minutes at best. Called Uber and for about $6 we were at our hotel within 10 minutes from when we called. Priceless!
4. Pirates and Pals Fireworks cruise. You have not seen the MK fireworks til you have seen them from the water this was a fun activity. A bit pricey but well worth it!! Lots of snacks/non alcoholic drinks, meeting with Captain Hook/smeed, corny humor galore, and Peter Pan. Magical!
5. Touring plans website. I subscribed and used the touring plan tool based on my fast passes. They know their stuff!! Worked out very well.
6. 1900 Park Fare dinner. Met Cinderella, Prince, stepmom and sisters. Lots of fun interaction with characters. We prefer the speaking characters. Typical buffet food but great characters.
7. Garden Grill Buffet breakfast. Delicious and way too much food!! Sweet roll thing in pan best tasting breakfast food ever! Early reservation enabled us to be among first on Soarin'. Pics with Mickey, Pluto, Chip n Dale. Definite win.
8. Soarin'. Blows the old one away in my opinion. So realistic! My fear of heights tested a couple of times!!
9. Leaving before Illuminations. Not one of our favorites and it was nice beating the herd out of Epcot.
10. Candlelight Processional. Got on line about 40 minutes prior. Had reserved seating. Guaranteed seat. You could have come 15 minutes before. However we wanted to be under roof as there was some lightning. Beautiful show.
11. Early morning magic in DHS. Sooooo worth the money. TSM 7x, pics with Mickey/Minnie/buzz/Woody with no waits and an all you can eat breakfast. A highlight of our trip.
12. Dluxe burger in DS. Delicious fresh burgers. Ordered one large fry for the three of us. Was enough and we can eat! Lol. Burgers are big and filling!
13. Renting vacation club points and staying in OKW. Loved it. Near hospitality house. Great location. Resort room could use updating but other than that good choice with one exception...see below miss #5.
14. Gifts of a lifetime. It was expensive but they did a customized scavenger hunt for my daughters birthday in the MK which was great! You can google website.
15. Getting early fast passes so you can then Get more later on when you are done with your initial three.
16. Magic bands. Our first time with them. Loved it.
16. Magical memories photo package. Loved it!!! Took some pics on my own but so nice not having to deal with character/ special park pics. Able to download immediately and post to social media. Kids loved that!
17. Ft. Wilderness. Loved trails end buffet. Great food, reasonably priced and outstanding staff. We were over an hour late due to transportation issues and the hostess said kindly as long as we were there before closing we were not late. Our waiter Sergio amazing and the chef fantastic. See next hit.
Rented golf cart. So fun!! Ride around and looked at decorated campsites. Had a great time, even in the rain!
18. Nobody takes food allergies as seriously as Disney. My daughter allergic to tree nuts. At every restaurant the chef came to speak with us and walked her around the buffet. Outstanding.
19. Talking Mickey meet and greet in town square what else can I say. It's Mickey band he talks to you.
MISSES
Remember folks, only my opinion!!!
1. Be Our Guest. Lunch here. No characters so don't expect to meet Beast at lunch. The French onion soup was tasty but did not agree with me. Let's just say I needed a fast pass to every ladies room I passed throughout the rest of the day! My daughters turkey sandwich was dry even with added mayo. Is the castle beautiful? Yes. Would I do it again? No.
2. And this is what some of you will not like. Seven Dearf Mine Train. Cute. Worth a one or two hour wait??? No way!! Fast pass it for sure. We all decided it was only ok and actually prefer BTMR. The good thing is most everyone runs there at opening so all other rides are easy pickings!
3. While I'm on rides, Frozen in Epcot. Yes good animatronics but worth the two hour wait??? NO!! Of course I fast passed it. I am a DIS'er after all. Lol. The Frozen show in DHS was 100x Better and had the "real" Elsa
4. Sacrificed Test Trac FP for frozen. Had to see it but wouldn't do it again. So kids did single rider TT. miss: Couldn't design their own car. Should have realized that, but Didn't realize til too late. It was hot and early what can I say? Lol
5. Should have gotten 1 br instead of villa at OKW. Would have had washer/dryer in room. Didn't realize til too late. Off to laundry I go
There you go. I may think of more. Heading to Universal today. Post questions. Thanks for all the tips that helped make our trip magical!!
