Here Now. Any Questions?

Have you noticed carbonated water for purchase anywhere? Random, I know. Thanks! Hope you're having a blast!!

Have you had any whale sightings? We plan to be there next February, one week in Maui, one week in Aulani. I really want to see whales in Hawaii!

We were there Presidents day week (mid winter break for us), and although we didn't see whales (didn't realize that we could), several people told me that they did. They seemed to be passing by at sunrise and then again close to sunset...convenient! It wasn't close by, but still visible. Next time I'll look...was just enjoying the sunrise/set.

Have you noticed if the lifeguards at the pool are enforcing the chair saving rules? The way I understand it is that they will monitor chairs for an hour and if no one has been back and belongings have not been moved, they will remove them to free up the chair. I've heard enforcement of this is intermittent, which is concerning because I've also heard lounge chairs are hard to come by. What's your experience been like?

President's Day week...absolutely! Not lifeguards, but other CM were walking around and folding towels (or adding folded towels if none present) on the backs of the chairs. If it was undisturbed for 1hr+, items were moved to nearest towel return or pick-up area. I saw items near the towel return (assumed this was the case) and also overheard upset guests who were looking for their items..oops! We had to keep an eye on our chairs (usually only held one or two for our group) the whole trip. More closely monitored before noon.

I love going to Hawaii in February, specifically because of the whales! We were there February 12th - 21st and saw a LOT of whales! Saw them both off shore from the hotel and out on the ocean when we went out for an excursion. You should sign up for Groupon Honolulu. There were several whale watching trips being offered while I was down there, and not for a lot of money either.

Alright, everyone. I am now safely home and already missing Aulani. I can no longer check prices or ask cast members questions for you, but if you have any other questions for me, I am still willing to answer.

Sounds like maybe you should consider DVC. We bought in in 2012 and Aulani is our home property. This decision has more than paid for itself with the number of times we have stayed there!

I know that they do have a few excursions around Pearl Harbor, but we didn't book any. Sacrilegious, I know, but we're from Canada, so the significance isn't really there for us to go out of our way to see it this trip. You can only fit in so much.
Really? Not significant?

I'm not saying it isn't significant because it certainly is, but it isn't significant enough to me personally to fit it in in the limited amount of time I had on vacation. It is on my to do list for my next time in Hawaii, but not this time around.

At this point in time I do not have enough knowledge of the event to properly respect it, and I would rather the limited amount of tickets that are sold each day went to someone who properly deserves to see the site.

I do respect the event and the lives that were lost. It is an event that changed the world forever, but as a Canadian, since we were already fighting the war when Pearl Harbor happened and if what I was taught is true, the US only joined because of Pearl Harbor I do find myself with some feelings that are maybe a little inappropriately biased towards the event.

That said, I understand that the US was under various economical and other such strains at the time, so I understand why they chose not to join the war until this happened.

But I could debate this issue with you all day. I do think it was a horrible thing that happened in a war of disgusting acts.

At the end of the day, the Aulani disboard is really not the place to debate this. So I would ask that you not single me out and bitterly confront me as a foreigner with no connections to America or Japan who doesn't find as much significance in a piece of American-Japanese history.

Pretty well said for a 21 year old foreigner. Hope you get there on your next trip and hopefully it will be meaningful to you--in your own frame of reference-- then.

As for withdrawals, can't help you there. We haven't even been yet and I know I'm going to want to go again!
