I'm not saying it isn't significant because it certainly is, but it isn't significant enough to me personally to fit it in in the limited amount of time I had on vacation. It is on my to do list for my next time in Hawaii, but not this time around.
At this point in time I do not have enough knowledge of the event to properly respect it, and I would rather the limited amount of tickets that are sold each day went to someone who properly deserves to see the site.
I do respect the event and the lives that were lost. It is an event that changed the world forever, but as a Canadian, since we were already fighting the war when Pearl Harbor happened and if what I was taught is true, the US only joined because of Pearl Harbor I do find myself with some feelings that are maybe a little inappropriately biased towards the event.
That said, I understand that the US was under various economical and other such strains at the time, so I understand why they chose not to join the war until this happened.
But I could debate this issue with you all day. I do think it was a horrible thing that happened in a war of disgusting acts.
At the end of the day, the Aulani disboard is really not the place to debate this. So I would ask that you not single me out and bitterly confront me as a foreigner with no connections to America or Japan who doesn't find as much significance in a piece of American-Japanese history.
