Here I go again...eating my way around the world! Oct 2010 F&W -COMPLETED 11/10

Breakfast at the Wave looks yummy (we are doing dinner on our next trip).

Just finished catching up.....

All I can say is I am sooo hungry!!!LOL!

Great pics..great reviews!

That PFTS at the F&W Festival looks like it is something worth taking the time to do...

Looking foward to more....

I am on my way for a blood test, a fasting one, why did I have to look at this right now? :lmao:

Great reviews and fantastic pictures. I think it should be required that all menus have pictures and there should be a severe fine if the food does not look like the pictures. :)

As for the sweet potato pancakes, they are simple to make at home. Basically you just add some canned, mashed sweet potatoes to your pancake mix batter, checking to make sure if you need to add a bit more liquid to make it the right consistency. I also add sweet potatoes to my biscuits. Adds flavor, color and nutrition.

Slightly Goofy

Hey there Kelly!

I finally got to your dining review and am very excited that you went to Sanaa! I love Indian food and since we're staying at Kidani next year, it'll be on my list to go.

The PTFS looks absolutely awesome! That sounds like a must do one year. One question if you don't mind me asking, was it very pricey?

Strange about the whole ham thing at the Wave, you would think that ham and cheese omlette= ham......:confused3

Excited to see more! I always love your dining reviews!

OH my goodness, Kelly!!! All of the food looks amazing! I especially love the tea (dying to try it). The strawberries and cream look amazing. I love tea :goodvibes Also, pecan butter?! Sign me UP! Seriously, really enjoying so far---thanks

catching up on your updates and great reviews...popcorn::

So that's where the sweet potato pancakes ended up! I guess a lot of people complained when Boatwright's stopped serving breakfast. I know where to go on the next trip now.:thumbsup2
I was going to post EXACTLY the same sentiment!

Glad I solved the mystery!!

I'm so glad you liked Sanaa! It's neat to try some different flavors.

I found it interesting that they're serving the chai cream in a mug now instead of the tall glass like they used to. Unless it's a difference between lunch and dinner?

I have no idea if it was because it was lunch :confused3 It was tasty, that's all I got

I'm in! Your photos are fabulous, and I loved getting the inside scoop from the Party for the Senses! We just got back from a quick 3 night trip, and although we got lots of food booth stuff, we did not have time to do any special events. Of course, neither of us drinks wine, so that kind of limits our choices

The more I hear about Sanaa, the more I think I need to check it out. I am not a curry fan AT ALL, but some of the other choices looked really good to me!

And I'm with your mother.....I will do just about anything for a Cosmo slushie from the France booth. They were soooooo good!!!:thumbsup2

I drink wine and not much else  I like white wine though, so I have trouble with the wine pairings since most of them have red. Anyway, welcome along!

WOW party for the senses looks absolutely amazing!!! Great reviews and pics!!!

It was awesome! I'm so glad we did it.

I really want to try dinner next time.

It's definitely worth it!

Not a good idea to look at food pictures when you're hungry!! Thanks for the tip on sweet potato pancakes!

PFTS was $135 + tax. I think it was totally worth it.

Glad you're along for the ride!

There are certain things you learn growing up with real cheesesteaks :rotfl:

After all of that, we finally got to the F&W kiosks! :cool1:

We started with just Geoff & I, my parents went to play golf. When we got hungry around lunch time, we headed over to the World Showcase.

20101009_140.jpg

We started with Greece and the Chicken Souvlaki with Tzatziki

20101009_141.jpg

This is the kind of food I love and could seriously eat every day. I think it was better than last years and I still loved it :thumbsup2

We also picked up Spanikopita in Greece

20101009_142.jpg

It had a lot of spinach...which meant I loved it, but I can see how some might think it has too much spinach. I was in the mood for spanikopita, so I got it. I don't think it's the best one I ever had, but it was very tasty and hit the spot that day!

Next up was France and my escargots:
20101009_143.jpg

I really like escargot. These are very consistent, and if you've never tried escargot, this is a fairly *safe* way to do so.

We headed past Japan and decided to get the Tuna Sensation:
20101009_144.jpg

Last year we tried to get this, but they were out of it when we stopped by and never made it back. I'm so glad we tried it this year. This was my favorite of the festival. Everytime we walked past Japan I was tempted to get it again  Fresh, light, perfect in the heat!

Our last item for lunch was dessert! We stopped in Italy for a Cannoli:
20101009_145.jpg

This was much better than I was expecting. The cheese had a citrus flavor which really made it pop.

Overall we had a good start to the festival. No duds! :woohoo:

Yummmmm! Tuna Sensation is definitely on my must-do for F&W! Everything looks great.

Yummy pictures, thanks for posting them. I love escargot...can't wait to eat them at Chefs de France on our next trip.:santa:

Ooooh...your F&W goodies look really tasty. I'm hoping that Nicki picks dates that coincide with F&W for our trip next year.

Did they have the Tuna Sensation last year? I would have tried it if I'd seen in on the menu...I only remember three rolls. Tuna is my favorite, and it looks great!

I'm going to have to put it on my list for next year!

Hello, just joining in! Mmmm I love Sanaa - that Chai Cream is addictive. Funny you mention the bathrooms - I was totally enamored by them when I first visited. :rotfl:

Thanks for including your F & W dishes - I go the last weekend of the festival, so its great I can see what everyone thinks of the dishes first!

It was delicious! I highly, highly recommend it!

Mmmm, I discovered I loved them due to F&W. Geoff thinks I'm crazy

That would be great! I love F&W, it's my favorite time to go. Next year I'll miss it :guilty: Silly thing called a wedding :bride:

Pretty sure they had the Tuna Sensation last year. I specifically remember going to try it and they were out. I assume it was the same thing :confused3

Glad to see I'm not the only crazy who pays attention to bathrooms :rotfl:

I could really go for that Chai Cream right about now, it was so yummy!

When we returned to Epcot that evening, we had my parents along, so there was a little more to taste & try with the 4 of us!

My Mom started off by getting some champagne. Oh flutegate...this is her pour of White Star:
20101009_150.jpg

(The glass was full, but still...) She was a little ticked. Since this, they've returned to charging ~$12, but giving you a normal pour. This pour was ridiculous, but it was only $5! What a waste.

My Dad had the Applewood Smoked Beef, Duck, and Ham from the Charcuterie & Cheese booth:
20101009_151.jpg

He also got a glass of MacMurray Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir.
20101009_152.jpg

After this, we started checking pours before ordering. I don't know what was with some of the pours this year :confused3 As for the Charcuterie plate, things like it are right up there with pretzels for him, so he enjoyed it. He really liked the Pinot Noir, which is why he was so disappointed with the pour.

Next we hit Canada, where we got a salmon to split:
20101009_153.jpg

The salmon was good, but the maple glaze was really sweet. No one really cared for the lentils under it, but we're not really lentil people either.

I got a Nanaimo Bar
20101009_155.jpg

This might be on the top of my list for best dessert of the festival. It was divine. I refused to share  (And yes, I started with dessert...life is short, eat dessert first!)

Next we made our way over to Ireland, where my Mom got the Lobster & Scallop Fisherman's Pie
20101009_156.jpg

And inside:
20101009_158.jpg

Last year Geoff & I got one that was totally lacking any lobster and scallops, and everyone else on the DIS was raving about the chunks in it and how good it was. So I was a little stubborn and refused to get it again. Of course my Mom's had the chunks of seafood in it that we were missing. She enjoyed it, but to be honest, I didn't miss it.

My Dad got the cheese plate:
20101009_157.jpg

He's a fan of mild cheeses (I like stronger, more intense cheeses!) so he absolutely loved this plate, right up his alley!

Next up was my turn :yay: Time for Belgium, where I got both the waffle:
20101009_161.jpg

(which yes, I ate this first! :lmao: )

And the mussels:
20101009_162.jpg

Both of these were real winners in my book. The Waffle was fresh and crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. Not terribly adventurous, but very well made. The mussels had a delicious sauce on them that was great sopped up with the bread! I hope to see this booth return next year (even if I won't be there!)

We stopped at Morocco next. Both Geoff & my Dad grabbed a Kefta pocket.
20101009_163.jpg

I took a bite. It was okay, but I wasn't wowed by it.

Next up was Italy. I like Italian food, but there's always so much more to try that I usually skip the Italy booth. This year was no exception, but my parents both wanted to try it, so I got pictures of everything! (Of course, we did get a cannoli at lunch, so I guess I didn't totally skip it this year!) First up was the Baked Cheese Ravioli:
20101009_168.jpg

They also got Baked Cheese Ravioli, Creamy Bolognese Sauce, Melted Mozzarella, and each got a glass of the Chianti.
20101009_169.jpg

This was my Mom's favorite booth of the festival. It might also have helped that she wanted to set my brother up with one of the "cute Italian girls." :rotfl: The pours of wine were excellent and the food was hot & delicious.

Next up on the list was Singapore. I really wanted to try the shrimp cake with noodles:
20101009_172.jpg

This was really good. The noodles are served cold, the cake hot. There was a little bit of a kick to it, but nothing substantial. I know I've read that some didn't like the consistency of the shrimp cake, but I didn't have a problem with it.

Geoff had the other dish from Singapore, Coconut-Braised, Beef Rendang with Jasmine Rice:
20101009_173.jpg

He really liked it, listed it among his favorites from the festival. I didn't try it because it had coconut

My last stop of the evening was South Africa, all four of us got the seared beef tenderloin:
20101009_174.jpg

What was great is that they checked to see how we liked our meat done. So I was able to get a medium rare piece :thumbsup2 Always a winner.

Finally my Dad was traditional and stopped at the dessert booth before we called it a night, he got the sampler:
20101009_175.jpg

These were pretty good, but nothing particularly special. I liked the desserts that were available last year better.

Overall: there were no duds except the pocket from Morocco. And even that wasn't bad, just not really anything "wow." Still had a pretty decent run.

Everything continues to look really good. But that lobster & scallop fisherman's pie is really making me drool big time. I need a bib. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Everyone is still raving this year about the pie. As I mentioned, I skipped it because I didn't see the hype last year :goodvibes

No trip would be complete without a character meal, and on this trip, we decided to head to Crystal Palace for breakfast. I scored an 8:30am ADR, so we were able to get into the park early :cool1:

We got to the turnstiles at about 810, so we had a little bit of time to kill walking down Main Street. Interesting note: we didn't have to give our name to anyone, they let us right in :confused3 (Crystal Palace was taking walk ups.)

We took a few pictures on our walk down Main Street, Photopass Photographers were out.

We then checked in and only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. The characters were just making their way out of the room, so we were able to go right up and get food, I only took a picture of my plate:
20101009_181.jpg

Starting with the plain Mickey waffle and going clockwise, next is the chocolate Mickey, Eggs, Potato Bake, Puffed French Toast, and sausage. I also grabbed some Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal and our waitress brought out some soy milk for me (I can have milk, but I can't drink it straight without getting sick to my stomach, so I use soy in my cereal.) The soy milk was a box of Vanilla Silk, she asked if I wanted chocolate too, so that must mean they have chocolate too!

Anyway...then the characters started coming around. We were out by 915!

069.jpg

Overall: 8/10 I wasn't thrilled with the options on the buffet, lots of sugary items...or eggs. But everything tasted good and was fresh. Our service was excellent and we'd definitely return. Plus, it was so cool to walk into the park early!

Excellent reviews. Thanks for all the pictures and details.

Are many of the pours at the booths terribly small? How did you manage to check? Did you just stand to the side and watch what people were getting from the CMs?
