"Her Name Was Definitely Mary". Our 1st anniversary trip, May 2011 *NEW 9/6

Awesome updates! :thumbsup2 You have me excited about Sanaa. I have an ADR there for December. If you are still following along on my PTR, in a few months... you should remind me of what it was you had at Sanaa that you thought was the best. I know you mention it now... but I KNOW I will forget. Age is getting the best of me...and my memory. ;)

Too funny that you again do a seat impression. You couldn't have planned it that way and yet... :rotfl:

The rest of your day looked pretty good. Gotta love Flame Tree for lunch, love that place :)

Your MK evening looked really fun and relaxed, do you know we have never taken a ride on Dumbo either, its on our must do list this year. We're pretty much the same as you, go on it the once just to say we've been on it :teeth:

Tusker House is GREAT for breakfast if you get to try that sometime, I recommend it and I rarely like breakfast food to begin with :rotfl:

You're right the giraffes were all posing for you that day :thumbsup2

Your dinner looked great, I will have to try that restaurant out on a future trip! And of course MK at night is amazing.

I was cracking up at work reading about Ben's incorrect words to the song :lmao:

Yum! I love Indian food-- especially naan! Glad you got to see your Bears! I love that you know the lyrics of their songs, haha.

Love those giraffe pics & the one of the stork cracked me up! :rotfl:

Riding Dumbo at night sounds awesome. I'm excited to maybe try it out on our trip.

Too funny about your DH & the Country Bear songs! I'm not a big fan of that show, but a couple years ago we did it and I got a nice nap out of it, so it's not all bad. :lmao: I'm sure we'll have to try it with DS at least once.

Sleeping during the Country Bears?! That's sad! :rotfl: I am used to being the only person I know who loves them, but it still hurts to hear ;)

You'll love Sanaa! I will hop on over to your PTR (which I am still following, but I am just too slow to guess your pictures!) and post about the Durban chicken. So good!!

It was a relaxed night- we loved it! We did a lot of things just to say we've done it on this trip... it was fun!

Oooh, will have to try Tusker at breakfast- noted!

What do you mean... who doesn't know the words to all of the Country Bears songs? :rotfl2:
I'm weird, and proud of it! :thumbsup2

I loved these 2 updates! Where to start...

TH really is good--definitely try it next trip! And I've always wanted to stop at their little bar area but never have. Maybe I should put that on my must do list for our next trip too!

You really were all about dressing to match the bus chairs this trip, weren't you? Too funny! :rotfl:

I have always wanted to go to MK and ride rides at night. So jealous you did. Maybe one of these trips I will! And correction to your Dumbo comment--you won't have to ride it again unless you have little ones one day! ;)

So glad to hear you liked Sanaa! I made sure to take lots of pics of our Sanaa dinner for my TR. Can't wait to get to that update to share them.

...I was so waiting for the update where we found out the meaning to your title. Glad to finally find out! And your DH singing the wrong words to the song on accident--I find this hilarious!!! Mostly because my DH likes to make up stupid lines to songs on purpose and it cracks me up :lmao:

You guys are too funny, I have loved reading along! And I kept wondering why someone's name was "definitely Mary" I was guessing either someone walked by wearing a million name tags saying Mary OR a mother was yelling at her daughter named Mary very loudly. :rotfl: the real story was priceless!

I almost texted you yesterday. I was in the disney store and thought of you and Ben.

Here's what did it:

Not as good as On a Boat, but still cracked me up!

Ok, it's official: I will absolutely try Tusker House next trip!

We were singing the 'definitely Mary' line for the rest of the trip, cracking up each time.

 I love the image of a chick with a bajillion Mary name tags! There is a second meaning to the title, but that didn't happen until we were on our way home...

I almost texted you yesterday. I was in the disney store and thought of you and Ben.

Not as good as On a Boat, but still cracked me up!

That is fantastic! It reminds me of the people washing their poopy kid off in the water thing at IOA last year.

I'm just joining in! I'm a little late to the party, but I just found your trip report and read the whole thing -- loving it! :yay:

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on OKW. I'll be staying there on my next trip for one night and don't really know what to expect! I just bought DVC last year, too, so villas are a whole new thing for me, but from what I've experienced so far, I'm loving it!!!

Can't wait for more updates!

Just read your whole Honeymoon TR and finally caught up with this TR. It's a great read so far. :)

Welcome, welcome! Happy to have you aboard!

Ooh, now I feel guilty for being slow with updates... here you are patiently waiting for me to get to OKW... I'll get a move on, promise!

Congrats on buying DVC!

Just read your whole Honeymoon TR and finally caught up with this TR. It's a great read so far. :)

You read all that? You deserve an award, or at least a cookie. Do you have any cookies in your house? If so, go get one and eat it! ;)

Seriously, I am flattered that you are enjoying hearing about our trips! Thanks for reading!!

This was a good day right from the start because we woke up to the sound of nothing. No alarm was set; we just leisurely got up and got ready for the day. We were off to Epcot, and had no plans until our lunch ADR.

In truth, we didn’t sleep all that late and made it to Epcot just a little after 10am. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but neither of us are crazy about Soarin’. But since we totally skipped it last time, we figured we’d give it a spin at some point today. So we headed there first to grab a Fastpass to use later.
After that, it was over to Mission:Space , then we rode Imagination. Yep, I love the Country Bears and ride Imagination every trip, but I don’t like Soarin’. Told you I was weird.

Anywhoo, by now it was almost 11 and World Showcase was waking up. We wandered into Canada and meandered through the paths we normally skip. It is so pretty back there! I had no idea those gardens and waterfalls even existed.

IMG_5484.jpg

Since we were there, we figured we’d catch another ‘first time’ attraction: O! Canada. The show was starting in just a few minutes, so we timed it well. I thought the beginning of the film was hilarious, even though I’m not a Martin Short fan in general. He was very funny in this!

It was pretty rainy this day (I know I said earlier that the only rain we saw all trip was during our ‘Ohana dinner, but I lied. I’m experiencing all this right along with you guys!) But rain doesn’t bother us when we have beers, so we stopped in Germany to get some. Was that the sound of you gasping about how early we started drinking?

We journeyed on, with me stopping to show how excited I was that Davy Jones would be playing here. We weren’t going to actually watch or anything, but I was still excited. Davy Jones was my favorite Monkey when I was younger. Now if you asked me, I’d say Michael Nesmith is my favorite Monkey. All that aside, here’s my excitement:

IMG_5485.jpg

We found a covered spot in Italy and sat down with our beers.

IMG_5487.jpg

IMG_5486.jpg

I think I took this picture for a reason, but I don’t remember what it was… unless it was just to show the level of detail found in the World Showcase pavilions…

By the time we wandered over to Mexico, it was time for lunch at San Angel Inn. This was a first for me, and I was very excited!

IMG_5488-1.jpg

While waiting to be seated, we had a “Chris from Orlando” sighting
IMG_5489.jpg

For those not in the know: when a CM forgets or loses their name tag, they get to wear the gender neutral name of Chris. Ben and I learned this on the Backstage Magic tour, and then proceeded to notice every time we saw this tag.

After a short wait, we were seated and got to start our delicious lunch!
I ordered the Traditional Lunch, which included the tortilla soup. This was AMAZING! So yummy. In fact, the whole meal was scrumptious, right down to dessert. I didn’t make a note of what Ben ordered, but I know he really enjoyed it. We were thrilled with this meal!

Once done eating, we rode the Gran Fiesta Tour before heading out of Mexico. As much as I wanted to visit la Cava de Tequila, we were very full and getting kind of tired. More alcohol was not needed just then (blasphemy!)

Even though I was seriously dragging by this point, we decided to check out the American Adventure, which we had also never done before. I couldn’t believe how many escalators we had to go up before we got to the theater! As for the attraction… I didn’t fall asleep. But I also wasn’t all that excited about the show. And when we left, I was almost tired enough to through one of those tantrums that kids get to through. We needed to get the heck. Out. Of. There. Of course, I did manage to find enough energy to get a chewy caramel bar at Karamel Kuche in Germany, despite the super long wait. Ben stayed outside because the smell of the popcorn was making him sick. Weirdo.

So we headed back to Kidani and I took a nap. Even though we slept in that morning, I was just wiped out!

I woke up in time to get ready to head out for dinner. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom, then grabbed the monorail to the Poly (wow, we didn’t take the boat!). Dinner was at Kona- one of our favorites. I had tuna oscar, and Ben had something else (sorry- no notes and I no longer remember!). As usual, we really enjoyed our meal here!

Epcot had evening EMH, so we headed back over there. We stopped by Soarin’ first to use our FPs from earlier.

IMG_5492.jpg

IMG_5494.jpg

IMG_5495.jpg

I can’t really explain any of those pictures…

We were finally able to visit the tequila bar, and we got our margaritas. I had the passion fruit and it was delicious! Ben got the hibiscus margarita and it was ridiculously strong. He seriously had a hard time drinking it.

We walked through the Showcase and ended up in the UK, where we texted our friends so they could call us in the phone booth. We chatted a bit, and one of our friends called the other booth. When it rang, the girl near it hesitated and we urged her to pick it up. I think we scared her…

I got a Bass Ale in the Rose & Crown, but Ben was done drinking after his almost straight-up glass of tequila. I drank my beer as we walked back across the Showcase. Walking through Morocco, we saw security meeting up with a CM looking for the ‘signal 2’. Ben and I immediately looked it up on our phone, and just as we thought: a ‘signal 2’ is an intoxicated person. I guess evening EMH at Epcot does get kinda crazy!

We rode Mealstrom cause we were walking by it, and then headed out of the park. We stopped for some (blurry) Photopass pics along the way:

Photo0083FourBySix.jpg

They were all blurry... Photopass photographers are not always the best night time picture takers...

Once we got back to our room, we fell asleep super fast. I wish I slept as well at home as I do in Disney!

I love that last night-time photo of you and Ben! Even though it's blurry, it's still a beautiful picture and reminds me how amazing it is to be at any Disney park at night... :cloud9:

Gotta shout out to Ben's shirt! I have almost the same exact one! (believe it or not, there's a few of us from upstate NY that are Red Sox fans... my Dad's from Boston though, so technically it's still in our blood!)

Great update! Love Epcot:lovestruc I laughed at your story about the CMs wearing "Chris" nametags. I worked at DHS for a few months and we had a small pile of lost and found nametags in the back which we had to draw from if we forgot our own. When I first started they had just issued new nametags and not ordered one for me.... for the first 2 months I worked at Disney I was "Janet" instead of Jessica. Answering to another name took some getting used to!

Great update and very cool piece of knowledge about the name tags...I will be on the lookout from now on :goodvibes

I love the picture of you in Canada, it almost looks like you moved from your impression of a bus seat to your impression of the mountains. :rotfl:

I used to have a HUGE crush on Davy too. I was heartbroken when I found out the Monkees on TV were repeats that my mom used to watch when she was a little girl and Davy was old now. :guilty:

I knew the CMs always had to wear a nametag, but I didn't know that "Chris from Orlando" was the dummy tag! Now I will be on the lookout for that on future trips!! I always wonder though how many CMs are missing out on compliments left for them at GS because they are not wearing their own nametags! :rotfl:

There is something special about walking through the parks at night... ahhh...

Gooooooo Red Sox!!!

Answering to another name took some getting used to!

We were also told that all the CM name tags were made by this one guy (we saw his office)... but now I am beginning to wonder if they just tell you a bunch of wacky stories on these tours to see how gullible guests are...

I'm made for working at Disney: I get called all kinds of names at work (Sharon and Judy most recently) and I always seem to know they're talking to me! :rotfl:

Great update and very cool piece of knowledge about the name tags...I will be on the lookout from now on :goodvibes

It was amazing how many we saw... and especially funny in the WS when the CMs were clearly not from Orlando!

I love the picture of you in Canada, it almost looks like you moved from your impression of a bus seat to your impression of the mountains. :rotfl:

HAHA! Ben will be so happy you said that... I soon as I posted the update, he read it and told me I should've pointed out my mountain impression.

Poor Davy, but judging from the long line of folks waiting to see his concert at Epcot, he still has plenty of fans!

I knew the CMs always had to wear a nametag, but I didn't know that "Chris from Orlando" was the dummy tag! Now I will be on the lookout for that on future trips!! If you see a "Chris from Orlando", you can always ask their real name... I bet they'd be happy to tell you. Maybe. ;)

This was a good day right from the start because we woke up to the sound of nothing. No alarm was set; we just leisurely got up and got ready for the day. We were off to Epcot, and had no plans until our lunch ADR.

I think those mornings are so nice. Weird that despite the fact they are so nice... I don't do this but maybe once on an entire trip.

After that, it was over to Mission:Space , then we rode Imagination. Yep, I love the Country Bears and ride Imagination every trip, but I don’t like Soarin’. Told you I was weird.

Well, ok...so maybe weird that you don't like Soarin;) but I too really enjoy Imagination.

We wandered into Canada and meandered through the paths we normally skip. It is so pretty back there! I had no idea those gardens and waterfalls even existed.

IMG_5484.jpg

I was amazed at what is there too. Kinda a hidden gem. And the pic of you is very nice... but as Betsy pointed out...:rotfl:

Since we were there, we figured we’d catch another ‘first time’ attraction: O! Canada. The show was starting in just a few minutes, so we timed it well. I thought the beginning of the film was hilarious, even though I’m not a Martin Short fan in general. He was very funny in this!

I like this well enough. I do find Martin Short funny and all... but I think it is a tad outdated. Of course... I think most of those country promo's could stand some updates.

It was pretty rainy this day (I know I said earlier that the only rain we saw all trip was during our ‘Ohana dinner, but I lied. I’m experiencing all this right along with you guys!)

:rotfl:

But rain doesn’t bother us when we have beers, so we stopped in Germany to get some. Was that the sound of you gasping about how early we started drinking?

No gasping. I just read all about your drinking adventures.. and up until recently I really drink much because of medication interaction issues. BUT I discovered if I space the drinking between the doses enough I can have a yummy adult beverage with little ill side effects. So... while before I would just read about your beverages, not thinking of how I would be able to also have some of these items...now... I am takin notes. yes... mango margarita at Sanaa. (got it) Passion fruit margarita at la Cava de Tequila, (got it) :goodvibes

We found a covered spot in Italy and sat down with our beers.

IMG_5487.jpg

IMG_5486.jpg

I know this spot. We sat in that exact spot a bit last September. I was thinking of posting a pic on my game taken from that spot.

While waiting to be seated, we had a “Chris from Orlando” sighting

I will have to share that with dh. That is the type of thing he would find interesting. I bet he would enjoy the backstage tour. Finding out little tid bits of stuff like that would keep his interest in Disney going a bit. For him... there is only so many times he can ride Dumbo. :rotfl:

I was surprised at how long this is. I really prefer HOP. I do like the choir that sings though. The way their voice resonates up into the ceiling is awesome. The show.. not so awesome. Kinda more sleep inducing.
I woke up in time to get ready to head out for dinner. We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom, then grabbed the monorail to the Poly (wow, we didn’t take the boat!). :goodvibes love Kona.

I wonder if Epcot has more trouble with this due to WS than any other park? I know on our Spring 2010 trip there were some people so bad off they could barely walk. (at least one in their group was needing to almost be carried) They were all stumbling about. No security then though. :upsidedow

We stopped for some (blurry) Photopass pics along the way:

It is a shame that not all pp photographers are good. You have this opportunity for a shot in front of SE and.. it is blurry. Granted... it isn't a bad picture. But.. just seems (and I know they are not all actual photographers) that they should be able to get better shots.
