Hello. I am new to the WISH boards but I am hoping for some help. I am just so depressed today that I basically just needed to get it out.

I am originally from Georgia but had moved to Texas for the last 10 years. Well, my husband and I decided that it would be better for our son to be near his family so when a transfer for him came up we took it. Well, it is on the Northside of Atlanta and I am from the Southside and so I do not know how to get around (Atlanta is BIG!). I might as well have moved to a different state.

On top of that, I can't seem to get a job. I have alot of experience in my field but no one seems to want to hire me or if they do the hours don't work for my family, etc. We received a VERY healthy bonus from my employer when we left Austin but that will run out in the next month or two and I am getting worried. It is also very frustrating when you are looking for employment because alot of times your self-esteem gets wrapped up in it as well. Today I have NONE......I went on a working job interview for a job I have been waiting to get into for over a month. Well, we finish the interview and she says, "Well, we will let you know. I asked when she would possibly know (as this has already been a month long process) and she says "Hopefully, by the end of the week" . What does that mean? You have had a month to make a decision on someone and you are still looking at a few applicants? I feel like a dog drooling after a bone tied to a rope like in the cartoons. ;)

I am trying so hard to keep up all the hard work I have accomplished with my eating and exercising. I am succeeding but I am really getting tired of the emotional battle. Well, I guess I have whined long enough! Thanks for listening! :listen:

In my current line of work - we call them internships. Quite frankly, it amounts to "slave labor" and rarely lead to fulltime employment. Although some interns do land part-time on-call positions.

I don't know what kind of career you are looking for, but, seriously consider all of your strengths and not just what line of work your have done in the past.

Think about what kind of work you'd like to be doing 5-10 years from now - it may not be the kind of things you've done in the past. This move may be just the time to go for what you really want. Sign up with a temp agency, consider working with a summer camp program for the time being, sign up for a course at a community college that will augment your skills and help you to network.

At mid-life, I'm pursuing my Masters in secondary education and will become a teacher this year. I know that the right thing is out there for you too.

I want to add my encouragement. Glad that you came here too! Keep at it and never give up. You can get through this and when you do it will feel good. In the meantime, keep smiling and moving forward.

Let us know how you are doing.
