I am a Disney World vet, but am debating a quick girls only trip to DL. How far in advance do I have to book the Grand Californian? How does it work? I looked up May 2016 dates and it's saying not available for any category. We just want to have two park days and four nights. Is this a reasonable amount of time? THanks!

What dates are you looking at in May? There is the Tinkerbell half marathon in early May so that could be why you are seeing nothing available.

When in May are you thinking of visiting? There is the Tinkerbell Half Marathon on Mother's Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend is typically considered the kick-off to the summer season. Both of those periods are typically busy in the parks and hotels are probably booking up pretty fast. There are also Grad Nites scattered through May, but I don't think those would impact the hotels.

I think two park days is enough to get a preliminary sense of the parks, but it's not enough time if want to try and do most things. You'll have to pick and choose which attractions, shows, and activities you want to see when you'll be there. My general feeling is two days is enough to get an overview of the parks, but you will have to skip some things.

I'd call them directly if I were you to see if there is anything left - are your dates at all flexible?

I honestly don't think 2 days is nearly enough time but it depends on what you want to do and if you want to do anything more than once. If I were to pay the expensive rates to stay onsite for 4 nights you'd bet I'd be buying a pass that extends my entire trip since it is available.

Check the Dapper Days website and book through their event. It's April 30th and May 1st, the room rates are easier on the budget. As long as at least one of those dates are part of your trip you'll be fine.
With DD's rates from 5-1-16 to 5-5-16 you can get a room at DLH for $230/nt and PPH for $210/nt not including taxes.
Here's a link to their website http://dapperday.com/

Have fun on the girls only trip.
