allowed or not ? what do you mean ?

allowed on the plane : Checked luggage only. Jelly and sauce will be taken from you at the airport if you try to get them through security, unless they meet TSA requirements. ( 3.4oz, transparent zip bag, more here http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/holiday.shtm )
so to be on the safe side, put it in checked luggage

allowed at restaurants : Sure. If some restaurant wouldn't let me bring a topping they do not offer, I'd probably walk out the door pretty rapidly

Sorry i mean checked luggage.

checked luggage, no problem, as long as they are in their original packaging and clearly marked for what they are

a piece of advice though : put them in air/watertight transparent plastic bag.
You really don't want those pasta sauce and jelly to explode inside your suitcase and ruin all your clothes.

Forgive me (I honestly dont mean to be rude!) but why are you transporting jelly and pasta sauce? Lol :rotfl:

I thought you meant fussy as in wouldn't eat plane food (and I don't blame her!) but are you planning on taking enough jelly and pasta sauce for an entire trip?!

Again, just curious :)

Quite honestly, it is a whole lot less hassle to order it online to be delivered to your resort/hotel/villa.

We usually take coffee, tea, mini choc spreads and left over snacks from the journey. Should I have declared them? If so, what does this involve?

I'm honestly not sure. It's usually declared on your form which you fill in on the plane, then in Customs in the US :goodvibes

Yes, you should declare anything that counts as 'food' of any description. All it means is that you tick the box on the customs form you get on the flight that says you have food with you. They will ask what you have brought in. Just tell them. They then send you through the 'red' gate when you collect your bags and your luggage is screened again.

We always take chocolates with us and always declare them. Sometimes they have waved us through and told us not to worry. Other times they have done a thorough check of our luggage. But I would rather that than not declare it and something be found in a random screening.
