I read this idea in Family Fun magazine & then put it into place yesterday. It worked really well, so I thought that I'd share it here....
Basically, I had my DD6 help me make a list of everyone in our family. I then took her to the Dollar Tree to purchase one gift for each person on her list. It really made her stop and think about the people she was giving the gifts to. Some of the gifts are kind of silly (palm tree shaped air fresheners for my parents), but still meaningful (they are going to Hawaii this next summer, so the palm trees will hang in their car to get them looking forward to their trip
) She also chose an apron for an aunt that loves to cook, a feather duster for her other aunt b/c she just moved to a new house, and fishing stuff for an uncle that enjoys fishing. All in all, DD had a great time and learned that giving a gift of love takes time and thoughtfulness.
