I bought a men's shirt at the World of Disney Store in Downtown Disney on my last trip back. The cashier forgot to take the security tag off and I didn't discover it till I got back home. (These are the tags that look like round buttons about an inch across that would explode ink if you tried to pry it off.) I thought I would just take it to the local Disney store here, but I just found out they closed. The nearest one is 2 hours away for me. What would you do? Does anyone know if any store that has the same kind of security tag can take this off? I have the receipt from the World of Disney store but it's not going to mean much to other stores that aren't affiliated with Disney.

I think quite a few department stores use those type of security tag systems, but I'm not sure what individual store policies would be about removing it.

You could always call WoD and explain what happened. They might send you a new one!

Just call Disney merchandising at 407.363.6200 and they'll work it out for you.

I guess that I would take the shirt to a local dept. store. I think the security devices are all pretty much the same. Good luck!

I've had this happen before and all dept. stores are not the same. The only store here that could remove a tag was Lane Bryants. Apparently they come in different shapes and sizes and you need a matching remover. Hope this makes sense and you can get the tag off.

Thanks for your suggestions. I called Disney merchandising and she told me that other department stores would not be able to take that off. I don't know if that is really true or not, but she gave me a return authorization number and she said that I would be reimbursed the shipping charges to return it to them. Sounds like they will just take the tag off and mail it right back and it would take about a week by the time the whole thing is done.

Sure... the shirt gets a return trip to WDW... but what about YOU?!!! lol :teeth:

It happened to me once. I called my local Disney Store. She told me to come to the store with my recipt & she took me to Causal Corners & they took it off. she said it happens alot. I should add we have the nicest Manager at our DS.

Minmate - LOL. I should have asked for a free ticket in addition to the shipping charges!

Kae - I wish our Disney Store here hadn't closed. It was only about 10 minutes away from me

Try a heavy duty magnet. Alot of them release when there is a magnet. Try putting the magnet to different sides of the tag. The release may be on either side. Should tell people this, but anyone who works in a store knows that. That is what is on the counter at retail establishments to release the sensor tag.

Good luck, And mum the word.

Do not use screwdrivers or force. It is very easy to damage the fabric.

If you try a magnet, push the parts of the security tag further together before pulling them apart. The tag wil probably not unlock if kept under constant pulling tension during the "removal' process.

An extremely powerful magnet can be found inside a computer hard disk drive, if you have an old small capacity drive that is obsolete and don't mind doing a lot of prying to get the magnet out.

If it were me, I would not try removing the security tag myself. Becasue I have seen other people try to remove it( by them selfs) and all it did was make things even worse, by getting that ink( and the ink does not come off) all over the place and the security tag still did not come off after all that. So I would just send it back to Disney World and let them take care of it, like the lady said you could do.

That happened to me on our last trip. I called Disney Merchandising and because it was a clearance T-shirt they said that they would just mail me another one and I could do whatever I wanted with the shirt I had. With that in mind I went into the workshop and took a hacksaw blade and cut it off. No problems. Shirt was fine and the tag didn't explode. Oh yeah I never did get the shirt that they were supposed to send, but I didn't really think too much about it because I still had the original one.

If it were me, I would just take it off myself. The tags are secured with a pin, and they won't explode if you cut through the metal part with a pair of wire cutters; just make sure that you don't pull or twist the plastic part. (No, I'm not a thief, I'm a retail loss prevention agent and I've seen it all).
