Help with my use year Math

Either MS was wrong or rules on using transferred points and your own borrowed points escapes me.

2 weeks ago we did a 3 way call to MS to transfer points. I have a June UY.....our friends have Oct. they transferred us 100 points from their 2012 AKV contract. They had the extra points and they needed to bank by end of may or use them before Oct. They didn't need them so we agreed on a trade where we get 100 points. We are taking an August trip that requires 112 points.

Ok so here's the math. I have ZERO 2013 points left as they are gone for our dec ressie. This Aug trip is in my 2013 use year so we were going to use the 100 transferred points plus borrow 12 from 2014. Again....June UY so Aug 2013 I should be able to borrow them.

The CM said I was out of points and could not borrow and had to buy one time points for $15. I scratched my head, but since I didn't mind saving the 12 points for 2014 I just went ahead and purchased the 12 points.

I believe she was confusing my friends OCT UY with mine. And that's why she insisted I was out of options.....unless there is some weird rule about mixing transferred points with your own points I don't know about.

It cost me $180. In the end it's not the end of the world. I probably should have pushed the issue, but my friends kids were making so much noise in the background that I just wanted to get it done and over with. Somebody tell me I'm not wrong here.

I agree that it sounds like the CM became confused. In a case like that I would either have asked for a supervisor to verify or else called back and spoken to a different CM.

Maybe the CM just didn't see the transferred points. I've been told there is a different screen that shows those.

Call back tomorrow and make sure the transferred points are still showing in your account and that they will be good for whatever you planned to use them for. If not, now would be a good time to get a Supervisor to do a reallocation.

I agree...confused CM.

I just did a similar reservation. I had points transferred in from a friend who has a June UY. I borrowed ALL my 2014 points (I have a Dec. UY), and I also used some 2013 points, plus bought one time use points. My ressie is for Dec. '13. No problems whatsoever.

I would agree with you.....except it was the very same phone call that we transferred the points. We were all on the line. My friend had a reservation for Hilton head the same week, and changed it to SSR. Then she transferred 100 points to me, and banked her remaining points... then the CM came to me to make our SSR reservation for the same time (as we are traveling together) and that's when she said I needed to buy 12 points. I SHOULD have pressed the issue. If I really needed the 12 points, my friend would have transferred 112 instead of 100, but I knew I should have been able to borrow the 12.

Again, I'm not truly bothered.....it was just a splinter in my mind that I was pretty sure I didn't screw it up. We can certainly use the 12 points next year as we will probably be borrowing again from 2015 :scratchin

I wish the online system could someday be updated to include transferred points. This is my first experience with transferred points. I just like online because it takes the human error out of the equation....unless I make the error. Plus I'm a techie dork anyway.

I called this morning to ask the very same question. The CM said that if the transferred points are the same UY as mine, they would show up online. I assume that means same resort and same UY. Because it's a different UY, it will never show up online.

On a positive note, the banking restrictions for transferred points are different. You're not capped at the 4 month mark. They DO need to be bank prior to the expiration. Someone had posted that transferred points are good for 2 years, but that's not true.

For anybody reading this, transfered points retain their home resort status and UY. The MS system has trouble dealing with transfered points and it is confusing to members and CM's.

We transfered points one time and it caused us to miss out on a reservation due to the confusion. Took 2 weeks to find the transfered points and to get our account corrected.

I understand that, and I guess that's probably why they don't show up only...and never will....at least in the near future. I am ok with what happened. I just got off the phone asking myself "how did I mess this up?" after thinking it through for a while to be sure we could do what we were trying. Before my friend let me know she had points we could use, I was on the rental boards looking for points to transfer in. I spoke with 3 other owners about transferring instead of renting the points they were offering, and even they didn't know the logistics and rules involved. I ended giving an education of the rules of transferred points to those members.

So I'm not mad I bought 12 points. Technically I'm paying for the 100 points we did transfer in (not direct money but other arrangements we made) but I could have done it without buying them. I just felt awkward that I had messed it up on the phone with my friend still on the other line.
