Hi all--

Have been pouring over this site and reading all your helpful advice and suggestions. We are headed to Orlando in March--two weeks before Easter--and wondering about park strategy for MK--we have a five year old boy--we are staying off Disney and have reservations for an 1130 breakfast/meet the characters. Want to do some stuff before we have to hop on the monorail.

Suggestions appreciated!

Many thanks!

Welcome to the DIS. Glad you found us.

Anyhow, having a PS is the first step towards less stress at Disney. Where is your PS for?? And are you coming back after your meal to the MK?

Anyhow, I would pick out the top 5 attractions and work those in as priority. Also use FP to your advantage. It will really help you see more throughout the day.

I would also get to the MK at opening if possible. Then head to Fantasyland. Get an FP for one ride and do another (if these rides top your list). As this place can be a zoo fast and standby lines can become long quickly.

Hello and welcome to the DIS! We will be there in March (1-8) with our 5 year old boy (and his little bro) as well.

We have been the last two years with him, at that time of year, and usually break MK up into two days. Where is your character meal?

I am sure you know that the best strategy is to avoid an EE morning if you are not staying onsite. That said, arrive before the park opens. At opening, we usually walk down Main Street and hit Fantasyland first, and can get all the rides in in about 90 minutes tops, including repeat rides if desired. (But we avoid Snow White because it is too scary for him.) There is nothing like walking onto Dumbo to start your Disney vacation! Then we might do Tomorrowland Indy Speeday which our son loves (and which gets very crowded as the day goes on), and then Buzz Lightyear, both in Tomorrowland. Depending on crowds, you might get a FP for Buzz earlier. But we have not needed to do this in early March. Then off to your lunch.

[We always eat at Crystal Palace, the character meal buffet at MK. We just love it (for what it is...)! But getting out of the park sounds like a nice idea too!]

After lunch, you might concentrate on the other side of the park. Our son loved Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. But he also loved Tom Sawyer Island and Swiss Family Treehouse. You may well need to get fastpasses for these rides right after your lunch, even during this only "moderately" crowded period. At about 3:00 (I think) it will be time for the parade and there is no need to rush over to Main Street (unless you want to) as you can get a very good view in Frontierland.

I haven't mentioned Toontown Fair. It is off Fantasyland and usually opens at 10:00. There us a great little coaster there if he is not up for the bigger one. But beyond that it is just an elaborate character meet and greet. If we had only one day at MK and had scheduled a character lunch, I would personally skip it.

Anyway, this works for us, but I am sure you will get lots of advice! Have fun!

Thanks for your replies--

We are taking the monorail over to the Crystal Palace for the 11-20 seating for "breakfast" buffet, but we are calling it lunch! We will definately be returning to the park afterward......maybe everyone will be eating their lunch by then and we will get a tiny break from the crowds!

I feel like I we should exchange pix so we can spot each other at the park when we are there at the same time! ha ha

I am not real sure about some of the shorthand on the board--what is EE?

Thanks
Kim

I have to post again! Another question!

Is the haunted mansion too scary for my little guy? He's pretty brave, but I don't want him all freaked out. What is so scary about Snow White? He loves that movie!

:)

You know what? I don't thinkit's the Crystal palace. That is the one with Winnie the Pooh, right? It's not that one. It's the one with Mickey and Minnie and whoever else......Decided the Pooh one was too young for him--:)

Wherever it is, it's at 1120. Guess I better figure that out, huh?

:)

Sound's like you are talking about Chef Mickey in the Contemporary.

About Snow White and Haunted Mansion... last time I went with my entire family, I was in Kindergarten, my brother is 2.5 years younger than me. We went on the HM with our dad, and the only thing that scared us (in a bad way) was the Hitchhiking ghost - we sat on either side of our dad, and the ghost appeared in the middle- We though our dad turned into a ghost!!! Other than that we were OK. We all did Snow White without too much of a problem either - the only "intense" part is when it looks like the witch might drop a boulder on you

Sounds like he could handle those scary things. And yes, you are correct, it's the Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary. I just called to re-confirm that.

My son did not make it past the pre-ride "stretch room" in the HM in March, which is dark, cramped and kind of scary. But I agree that the rest of the ride is tame.

The Snow White ride has its own thread on here somewhere -- you could do a search in this forum. she jumps out at you, and it is too scary for my kids. But, while they are physically fearless, they are not as brave when it comes to psychological fears. every child is different!

you are going to have a great time!
