Help with iPhoto

I just bought an iMac - still in learning mode and was wondering if any of you can explain why anything I try to import into iPhoto from photobucket is grainy and how would I fix that. Now again, on my old PC I could figure it out but this iMac is new and I'm learning. Any help would be appreciated!!
