help with hp designjet 600 plotter please???

We are trying to set this up at work. I am connecting it to the existing parallel port (that our other printer usually is connected to)....it keeps coming up with an error message and doesn't work.....it is recognized and everything....thinks for a bit and then comes up with an error.....any suggestions???? I have put in a request directly at HP site but they seem to take quite a while to answer their forums....
