I have been trying to make a name with characters with photo impact but can only figure out how to create letters without an out line like this:

I cant seem to get letters to show the outline like the ones I've seen hear. I wind up with this:

Is there a particular font that I need to use. I tried using fonts with a heavy outline the the image goes into the outline. What am I doing wrong?

Help is greatly appreciated.:wizard:

I have an older version of PI, 7 I believe, and the only way I could find to outline anything was the Creative effect, Paint on edges.

Could any of the expert name makers help me with this. There is a step I'm missing. Thanks a lot for your help.

I wish I could help - I do not use Photo Impact. In my software there is a menu for layer styles. In that it has, bevel, drop shadow, stroke (outline), etc. Do you by chance have anything like that?

Did you try to look online for a tutorial? Worth a shot.

click on the paintbrush, set your size and color, then go to effects, creative, paint on edges, and it will outline your image.

wow, good job..

I have downloaded the trial Photoshop and spent half of the day trying to figure out how to do the character letters like you did... and still can't do that!

You're Welcome, just keep playing with it and you'll learn all kinds of new tricks. Only thing is it is very addictive!

I was coming over to tell you how to do it, and someone beat me to the punch. glad you got it. I love Photo Impact. My only problem is figuring out how to cut something out of a picture. I got to PhotoShop Elemements for that and then import back into PI. Anyone who is well versed in picture programs will tell you the PSE is a much better program, but I can't figure it out so I stick with PI. :confused3

I just learned how to take stuff out. I will post directions. It isn't an exact science with photo impact. Other programs may offer better results.:wizard:

I just wanted to say hooray for you for figuring it out. Way to stick with it. :thumbsup2 I remember that feeling so well. I was really excited. It was hard for me to figure it out but once you start playing with everything and seeing how it works it's so much fun. Keep it up and post what you do here. You'll get all kinds of encouragement. :goodvibes

To make character letters:

open a file that you want to make your letters with.

choose text then select the font that you want

Type the name.

select the name

open a second file that is transparent (upper left hand corner looks like a sheet of paper)

copy and paste the name to the transparent file and play with the size there. save file.

:You will have to play around with this to get the desired effect. I find that if I want a particular face in a name that it is some times best for me to do the name one letter at a time, positioning the letter I want over the particular part of the image I selected. I also find it easier to resize most images to a rectangular shape. This helps me pick up most of the image. I try to choose a size font that will cover as much as the image as possible or I may start off small and stretch the font size until it picks up as much of the image as possible.

Just work with it and you will get your desired results.:wizard:
