I just bought a Canon DVD Camcorder for our Disney trip. I was practicing using it lastnight so that when we get to Disney I won't be having to pull out the manual everytime I want to do something.:rotfl:

I'm not having any trouble using it or navigating the menus, but I am having toruble fianlizing the disc.

I know that when I'm done recording in order to view it on my computer or in my DVD Player I have to fianlize it. The directions are very clear on how to finalize the disc, but the manual does not tell you what to do if the option is not available.

Let me see if I can explain it.

The option to FINALIZE is in the menu, but the word it black and all the other options are white. That means that the option is not available. I don't know what to do to finalize my disc. Has anyone had this problem before? Any ideas on what I did wrong? Thanks!!

Are you using a DVD-RW (re-writable) disc? I believe if you use a DVD-RW you do not have to finalize it.

Yes, I am using those discs. I put the dvd in my computer but there were no video files on it ????

I have a SONY, and I'm looking for my book. If I recall, there is either something you do prior to recording, or after recording with a DVD-RW disc. I know on the SONY, the files don't look like ordinary video files. Did you try and put the disc into your DVD player? I also discovered that the DVD player that we had (which was old) could not play the DVD's, and had to buy a new one of those too!

Did you "initialize" the disc prior to recording? It appears as though the DVD-RW's must be initialized prior to first use. Also, it seems some of the Canon DVD camcorders can only be finalized when plugged in to a wall outlet. They cannot be finalized when running on the battery. Check it out and see.

My Canon has to be finalized while plugged into a wall outlet and you do have to initialize the disc when you first put it in the camera.
