Help....with borrowing points and stuff.

Hi,....I have no 2010 points
I need help with 2 scenerio's.....(typo???)BTW I have an April use year.

1....Can I make a ressie with borrowed points for oct/nov 2010 and then possibly cancel and rebook for DEC2010 if possible.ie...i reallly want to go in dec but mom cant get off....so i might book F& W fest...and then if i can change it to dec i will if it is available.

Ok....If i make a ressie now for April 2011......my use year is April....so i will be gettin my points then. So I'm thinking I can book a 2011 ressie now with my 2011 points. If I cancel what is the policy.

Am i making sense.

When your use year is does not impact when you can book. You can book at the 11 month window for your home resort. That's 11 months from the date of check in. MS will take the points from the correct use year, and if you need to borrow points from the corresponding next use year, they will do that then.

SO....Since your use year is April and you are currently in your 2010 use year, any reservations that occur between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011 are covered with your 2010 use year points. If you need more than you have in that use year, you can borrow up to your maximum number of points from your 2011 use year. The October and December ressies are both in your 2010 use year, but the April 2011 date is in your 2011 use year. You could be making reservations for that April vacation last month, and the points would have come out of your 2011 use year, even though you have 2010 points left. That would be UNLESS you banked your 2010 points, and in that case, you would be using 2010 and 2011 both for the 2011 reservation.

1. Yes, no problem. All those dates are in your 2010 use year. You would have to borrow 2011. If you borrow 2011 and then cancel, those points would expire 3/31/11.

2. For April 2011, you would be in your 2011 use year so you can use 2011 plus borrow 2012. If you cancel 31 days or more before check-in, the 2011 points would be returned to your 2011 account and could be banked. You could call now for your home resort.

Sorry, I missed that you had no 2010 points left. In that case, borrowing 2011 points into the 2010 use year makes them 2010 points and unavailable for 2011, because they would expire on 3/31/2011.

I would only borrow the points for the Oct or Dec trip if you know FOR SURE you are going to go on one of those trips. Once you borrow the points, they can't be returned and will expire at the end of your 2010 UY (3/31/11), which means they won't be available for the April 2011 vacation.

And, if you do book Oct and want Dec but can't find availability (Dec is really popular), will you still want to go in Oct? If not, then borrowing would not be something you want to do.

Thanks everyone....I think I will wait till 4/1. I have a cruise in 2 weeks....rented a beach house in Fire Island for a week in july....But I'm missing the mouse.
Don't want to overextend myself...and then get stuck with the points.
