Help with best areas to rent house

I am putting together plans to take our two boys (9 & 10) to Disney next year, and we wanted to rent a house close to the parks.

I have found some amazing deals on some beautiful homes for rent on VRBO.com. There seems to be so many different areas, I just want to make sure we are a very short drive away from the parks (15 mins) or less.

Can some of the Disney veterans please suggest certain towns or areas that would be the best places to rent a house for a week? Are there any areas to avoid because of traffic? Any an all help is much appreciated.

Check out the Orlando Hotel and Attractions section of the DIS. That's the place to discuss offsite hotels, condos and house rentals. Lots of really good information and people with experience there. We are trying Bonnet Creek for the first time for our next trip. It's within the Disney property and is a condo development. But there are folks there who have done all kinds of house rentals that can help.

You are taking some risks with VRBO. I would recommend All Star Vacation homes and they have homes in Windsor Hills Resort off 192 west of I-4. Good rates and nice choices from condos to single family homes. Highly recommended.

One last thing. If you book with All Star they offer travel insurance with their rentals so make sure that if they put it in the final order page you actually want it. We took it in 2008 (it was AIG Travel Guard) and had to use when my wife got admitted to the hospital. They paid with no questions or hassles.

You could try places like Lake Berkley, Windsor Palms, Rolling Hills, Indian Creek, Emerald Island, Sunset Lakes, Formosa Gardens, and Windsor Hills. I think all of these communities are within 10-15 min of WDW.

We rented from VRBO last summer, Listing #20768. It was about 15 mins or so to the parks. I have no idea what part of the city it's in though...

We stayed at Windsor Hills in May and it was WONDERFUL.

We usually rent directly from owners on listing sites like vrbo and homeaway. They have a guarantee that you can check out. Renting directly from the owner is usually a lot cheaper than renting from an agency. Every owner has a management company that looks after their home. We like the Formosa Gardens area which is less than 10 min from the AK parking lot and includes Windsor Hills, Crestwynd Bay, Rolling Hills, Indian Creek, Formosa Gardens Estates, Emerald Island, Oak Island, Sunset Lakes etc. Windsor Hills also has its own listing site for owners: http://www.windsorhillsrent.com/ You can put in an inquiry for you dates and requirements and owners will send you quotes.
Here's a map with blue markers for the communities, Disney has pink markers and a few of the many restaurants are marked with red. Windsor Hills is #1 and most of the others are to the left. Just zoom in to that and then click some of the other blue markers.

We've been renting homes since 2003 and other than one stay in Windsor Hills (very nice but $$$) we STRONGLY prefer Clermont area (slightly west of WDW) off 27. I also prefer north side near Walmart.
