Help with auto bid on Ebay

Help, how do I set up auto bid? I have 2 1/2 hours left. I am the highest bidder now, but as soon as I put a bid in earlier, I was outbid. So then I bid immediately again and I am now the highest bidder. Do I go to the increase maximum bid button at the top and type in the highest I am willing to go? Or if I do that will that be my current bid?

I need to run errands this morning and can't be here all morning waiting for this to end.

yes go to the increase bid and put in your max. It will increase it, as needed, until it reaches your highest. It won't immediately go there. Just be sure it is the highest you are willing!

Not "auto" as in car. Auto as in automatically.

Thank you so much! I was afraid to do that without someone telling me it was OK! It did not state auto bidding and I was scared if I put in a greater amount I would just be outbidding myself by a lot.
