hi, due to medical reasons we are having to change our holiday from christmas this year to aug next year, can anyone who has been at this time of year offer any advice!! what to expect in the way of weather and crowds would be great, the good thing about having to change is that we can now book for three weeks instead of two, so hoping not to be rushed around the parks, would it still be better to ps some of our meals or do you not need to bother ? any advice greatly excepted as we have no idea what to expect. thanks in advance susie :Pinkbounc

We went in August last year (sounds such a long time ago now :( ).

Are you staying on-site?

August is very hot and humid, and last year it was very wet too. The usual climate is high heat and humidity; which triggers afternoon thunderstorms, which are over in an hour or two (last year they seemed to stick around all afternoon and evening!).

The beginning of August is busy, although crowds fall off towards the end of August due to a lot of schools going back in some US states. We stayed on-site and didn't find the crowds that bad as longas you get to the parks early, (we skipped breakfast and had an early lunch), and then go back to your hotel in the hottest part of the day for a swim or siesta. Then return to the parks later in the day/evening.
Take plenty of water with you, the heat and humidity is really sapping. You can use the water fountains, but I find the water tastes yucky!

Opening hours tend to be long in the summer, so you can spread your park touring and not burn yourselves out.

We made PSs for most of our sitdown type meals and I think in general it's recommended, unless you eat at less busy times. We got a seat in the restaurant in Morrocco without a PS in the early evening without having to wait.
The more popular dining locations do get booked up very quickley though.
We found eating lunch early was good - from 11-11:30 most of the counter service places were empty :)

hi, yes we are planing on staying on site at the port orleans riverside, this is also a new experience never stayed on site before, thanks for all your comments very helpfull susie

You will love POR - we have stayed there twice now and it's our favourite resort :)

The quiet pools are nice in the hot afternoon, and if you have kids the main pool on Ol' Man Island has a great slide :)

The food court is also very good.

Ditto everyting that Tim said!!

I couldn't believe how wet last August was. We are used to the usual afternoon downpour, but it kept on and on!!

Hoping for better weather same time this year.

Apparently it broke all records last August so we should be OK.

We booked PSs for the meals that we knew we really wanted to do, and did have some walk in success too.

Oh, did anyone mention that it is HOT ;)

yes yes it was wet !!!!!!!!!!

We were there approx last 2 weeks in August & crowds were better than we'd expected.

Learnt to visit water parks on a morning before the rain came!

Did make Ps's before we went but also booked Fantasmic package on same morning in MGM.
