Help with ADRs

Hello - help please!!!!

We are off to Disney to stay at POFQ in October. I have read several threads concerning ADRs, 90 v 180 days etc.

Firstly, please could someone tell me what ADR stands for - (I'm guessing 'dining' or 'dinner and 'reservation' as the second and third word!), Also how I go about making these reservations, or am I too late (only 98 days to go until we leave), and how do you choose which restaurant to pick?

We have been to Disney several times before, however, not since 2001, and looking at some of the replies, it seems as though it is now hard to just walk into most restaurants - where on our past visits it was only certain restaurants that needed to be pre-booked.

Any advice will be greatly received:worship:

OK the 'A' is Advanced and the rest is dining reservation.

I think you will just miss the free dining period which I think guarantees the restaurants will be full! I looked on Allears for the menus when I was searching but they are also on the Disboards. Do you want a buffet, table service, character meal, show etc. they are the first things to decide and then if you have a rough itinerary choose restaurants for the parks you will be at or the resorts you will be near. The phone number is 001 407 939 3463 they are easy to sort out and use the cheap 1p per minute number (08448 610 610) before dialling the Disney number.

Are you hring a car - as you could eat off site and then only book a few ADR's if there are any special places you want to try :)

Thanks for the thought but no, no car this time - for the first time ever just using Disney transportation until we leave to go to Sarasota for the second week. This is why I'm so confused as we have usually eaten off site in the past, but this will not be practical this time.
:confused3

Thanks for this info - We have just missed the free dining period (typical!) I guess that we will mainly eat on the go, however, I did think it would be nice to be a bit more civilised on occasion. Was I right in thinking that we couldn't just walk in, or do you think the restaurants may be a bit quieter and that we might be able to decide on the day?:confused3

If you don't want to book - you could always go to guest services when you get to a park and see what is available for that day. Last October we just happened by a table on our way out of MK ona MNNSHP night - you just take your chances.

You can also eat at DTD at Wolfgang Puck express (I like it there) and the Rainforest Cafe without ADR.
