Help with 3rd July Touring Plan

My first time in Disneyland is 3rd July. 1 day trip only (but we will stay ALL day). This is an EE day I think, but not for me, so I understand the park already will be busy when we get in. For this reason, I have abandoned all hope of doing Nemo, as even a one hour queue would test my patience I think.

It is more important to me to do things that arent at WDW, as we go there regularly, but I think it would be nice to be able to see the differences in the rides too, so really I want to do pretty much everything (except Splash cos I hate the drop). I definitely want to see the fireworks, and preferably a fantasmic but could skip that if I felt there were still things I wanted to do.

So please help, DL veterans. What should be hit first as a non-EE person? Which rides are most important to fastpass? And do DL queues disappear in late evening like the WDW ones?

First, I would read Hydroguy's threads (particularly the "DLR for WDW Vets" thread & the "How to use FP during High Season" thread. Both essential reading.

Next, read the sticky thread at the top of this DL page...which i believe gives info on rides unique to DL.

After reading these resources, you'll probably be able to create a plan, but given your parameters, this is what I would do:

- Avoid FL & TL first thing.
- At rope drop, head to Indy for a FP. Continue to Pirates.
- Pirates.
- HM.
- Pooh (if inclined) - note Splash is right there, but you said you didn't want to do.
- Grab pastries in the empty / great Pooh bakery.
- Send someone to BTTM to pick up another FP.
- Take the raft to Tom Sawyers / now Pirates Lair.
- Ride Indy w/ FP.
- (Jungle Cruise but it's like WDW)
- Tiki Room (if inclined - MUCH BETTER THAN WDW & grab a Dole whip float)
- Grab a SM FP for that evening.

That would be a good start. Obviously you'll need to work Alice, Toad, Pinocchio, StorybookLand Boats, IASW, Roger Rabbit, SM & the Matterhorn in that day as well.

What do queues tend to be like for Storybookland / Matterhorn? From other things I've read they are the two you didnt mention I was worried about trying to get on mid-afternoon without massive waits.

You also just made me realize that in my head I have planned on spending about 16 hours in the park and not thought about meals at all (beyond the obligatory funnel cake). Hooray for pooh funnel cake. When we do WDW we go back to the resort for meals, so I didnt think about food in a disney context at all :s

Because Storybookland / Matterhorn are in FL , i'd avoid in the morn (because you don't have EE). I remember getting on SLand late afternoon & it wasn't too bad. I'll let others comment on Matterhorn as I've only done it during EE (except the 20 or so times i rode it in the early 60's

We ate at the Carnation Cafe last week (on Main St.) for Bfast at 10:30 (after touring hard for 2 1/2 hours & picking up 3 FPs). It was wonderful, but i've been told other places are great too. I & others posted on the CC a few days ago...look for the thread.

Also, the Pooh ride "dumps" into the bakery. 8y/o DS & i were about the only ones back there (about 9:45 am - rope drop was 9)...fresh cookies, pastries, tiger tails... & lots of stuff.

Also, the dole whips can be bought from inside the Tiki Room wait area & brought into the Tiki room...a great way to cool off.
