HELP! Where to find cheap van rental?

Wow!! Checking some websites, it looks like it might cost us about $550 to rent a minivan for a week in late August for pickup and return to Orlando International Airport. Has anyone had any luck finding anything less expensive?

There is a code for Dollar at www.rentalcodes.com that may give you a rate of $209/wk. The code is good for rentals through December.

You might also check L&M car rental. It's a small local company, but they're in the terminal.

I tried www.dollar.com with two codes: KISS3 and FVG (both i found from www.mousesavers.com) and they came up with a rate of $229.99 for a weekly rental starting Aug 23. I tried another code, VFLA, but it gave a rate of $324.99.

You might want to check out the codes on Mousesavers, as Mary does a great job of compiling rental car information. In any case I think $550 would be far too much given what I was able to find with some codes!

I used the VFLA code a week or so ago for mid-August and I got the rate of $209 per week.

The only thing is that on the rentalcodes site it says that that code is good for Sun-Wed pickups, but I am picking up on Friday and the code worked.

Mary has the VFLA listed for Dollar but just mentions that there might be blackout periods.

Does anyone think that I may have a problem when we at the rental counter with this code?

also, try alamo (now in MCO) using codes at mousesavers ~ we're renting a minivan at the end of august too (i believe it was the walmart code (??) that gave a quote of under $200 week).

BUT, we wound up using alamo with CostCo code & coupon:
$192.09 wk minus $15 coupon equals $177.09 wk (coupon in CostCo travel flyer), $34.84 day ~
total $246.77 for 9 days, including 2nd driver free (with taxes/fees it comes to $313.38).

BethR, I'm sure you'll be fine at the rental counter - is there a confirmation of some sort that you could print out? I think these codes must change just like airline ticket prices do, depending on how many people rent that day and stuff like that. If they have 10 vans left, it may be good to have the $209 offer, if they only have 2 left, they probably won't offer that price.

Keenercam and MickeyFan84 - you're welcome. Another good place to look is the transportation board, you can maybe see what rates other people are getting. You might also want to look into coupon codes from the Entertainment Book, Costco, etc. When we went, our travel agent managed to find us this amazing deal, we paid about $250 US with taxes included for a minivan for 9 days. That was from Avis. I think that was a miracle, but I guess the point is that research is important, as i'm sure you know.

Depending on your travel needs you may want to confirm the size of the van. On our trip in May the van had no storage space, it was shorter. We did negotiate for a van with storage area for $5.00 a day more. Previously we never had to do this because the van we received had storage.

It was Budget in Ohio, but I would use this caution in Florida also. Better safe than sorry....if we had not been able to get the bigger van there was no way we could have traveled to Florida comfortably.

I got a rate of $174.99/wk from Payless from Aug 1st-8th. They are off the airport though, we have to take a shuttle. I booked through Expedia.
