I definitely will not have her birth certificate before we leave since it takes 3-4 months for the city to register the birth before you can even apply for a birth cert.

Anyone know what documents I can take for her for crossing the border? We are flying out of Buffalo.

We travelled (a few years ago) with ours at 7 weeks. We han't received birth certificates yet and obtained a letter from the doctor as well as all the documents from the hospital. We were hassled by Customs about not having the "proper" documents, i.e. a birth certificate and said that other officers might not allow us through. Not sure if he was just hassling us tho. :confused3

Go to City Hall where they register the births and have them do you a travel document. I had one done for each of my children before we received their birth certificates.
It cost us $25 to have this travel letter done.

we were going to go when DD was only 3 months and needed something since we had do BC. As Ca bmom says you can get a leteer form City hall confirming birth. There is usually a cost.

This is what we did. We went to Buffalo to shop a couple of weeks ago and they didn't even ask though.

Oh, Im so glad someone asked this question! We just registered our little guy yesterday with the city and I didnt even think to ask about that before hand, now I can take the little guy over with me when I go shopping, look out Target here we come..

Dh is going to be soo happy ;) He was hoping Ben not having any paperwork would curve my over the border shopping ..

Thanks everyone. I guess I better get to Hamilton City Hall. Another thing to add to my to do list before we go, lol.

It's the opposite, you now have another person's duty free exemption to use.:)
